The Scientific Benefits Of Deep Sleep
In this first session, you will learn the scientific benefits of sleep followed by a relaxing bedtime story. Let’s start by understanding what sleep is and why is it so important. After all, we spend one-quarter to one-third of our human lifespan sleeping. Sleep affects almost every type of tissue and system in the body – from the brain, heart, and lungs to metabolism, immune function, and mood. Research shows that a chronic lack of sleep, or getting poor quality sleep, increases the risk of disorders including high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, depression, and obesity.

The Neurological Stages Of Sleep
In this session, we're going to understand what happens exactly when we sleep and the different stages we go through every night. There are two basic types of sleep: rapid eye movement (REM) sleep and non-REM sleep (which has three different stages). Each is linked to specific brain waves and neuronal activity. We can learn how to use meditation and bedtime stories to induce longer and more relaxed brainwave activity to improve our sleep.

Your Brain On Sleep
In this session, we're going to talk about what happens in our brains when we sleep. Several structures within the brain are involved here. By understanding the neurochemicals involved in sleep, we can naturally learn to induce the right ones to improve our sleep: from the beta state (normal waking consciousness) to alpha (relaxed consciousness), and even reach theta (meditative or dream state) and delta (deep sleep).
