Addiction & Social Media
To immediately address the elephant in the room: social media is addictive. It is designed to capture and hold your attention as often and as long as possible. The developers know exactly how our brains work and what its loopholes are. This class focuses on gaining insight into those mechanisms.

The Others
At the start of this class, we reflect on possible signs of mild addictive behaviors related to social media use. We also focus on the social in social media.
Lição 3
You
Today’s class consists of a meditation based on the Japanese term "ikigai", which means to "find one’s calling in life". The term is usually connected to one's working life, but I zoom out to who you would like to be as a person. The closer the ideal and actual self become, the easier it will be to relate to social media in a manner we like.
Lição 4
Behavioral Change
We further explore the Knowledge, Attitude, and Behavior model. During the first classes of this course, we have worked on gaining knowledge. Today, we will talk more about our attitudes and how formulating intentions may help to change behavior. This lesson includes a writing practice to figure out where you stand.
Lição 5
Thoughts & Emotions
We start with a short practice to reflect on which thoughts and emotions you experience during social media use. Thoughts and emotions influence our attitudes, intentions, behavior, and possibly our knowledge (selection bias). I attempt to shed a different light on how we appraise our thoughts and feelings.
Lição 6
Mindfulness
What is mindfulness? What's it not? After a general discussion of the philosophy, we learn about the first mindful attitude of the beginner’s mind. We finish with a brief meditation.
Lição 7
More Attitudes
We continue learning about mindfulness attitudes, especially those that can have a strong influence on changing our social media use. Non-striving. Non-judging. Accepting and letting be.
Lição 8
Tips & Tricks
After a number of theoretical classes, this is a highly practical class. I list many things that you may choose to change. I recommend choosing small steps that are not too far out of your comfort zone and implementing them over time. Hopefully, this results in lasting changes.
Lição 9
Summary
We start today with a Zen Koan meditation. Make sure you are in a familiar environment. During the remainder of the class, I will summarize and integrate everything you have worked on in the past 8 days. You may choose to just listen, or if you feel ready, to reflect on where you would like to start.
Lição 10
Old Habits
It is time to continue on your own - at your own pace and in your own manner. This final class aims to prepare you for the inevitable: relapsing to old behaviors. When you expect and accept relapse, you will be able to continue your social media journey after a dip.
