When we don’t know how something works, we can end up trying lots of things to improve a situation or achieve something. There are lots of example of this in life but the one which is huge for us on this course are the facts about our human psychology. Without these principles we are stuck trying everything to feel okay but once we have them, we can navigate life with much more ease.

So, if the outside world is not the source of our feelings, then what is? It is something much simpler and less complicated than the outside world. It is an inside system which is both universal (because we all do it) and unique (because we all do it differently). Finding out about the true source of our feelings is truly life changing and brings about a more calm and clear experience of every part of your life.

When we begin to understand that we are feeling thought in the moment and not our outside circumstances, it is all too easy to end up thinking that the way to feel better is by changing our thinking. So, it is important to know that we don't choose which thoughts appear in our mind but that the process of thought generation is random.

What you have been learning on this course is often known as the inside-out understanding. It is the simple truth that our feelings are created from the inside via thought in the moment. The trouble with believing the opposite is that it can put us on a route to a lot of suffering. But learning to spot these outside-in misunderstandings can be really helpful.

One of the most important things to know on this journey is that awareness is your superpower. But not the self-help world type of awareness where we say things are wrong with us and try to fix them. The labels, rules and beliefs about ourselves, others or certain situations we have unconsciously learned create a thought filter. That filter has a huge impact on our experience of life and has us create a reality that fits what we already think we know. As we learn about this process, we can start to see life through a different lens and have a much calmer and clearer experience.

You Are Not Your Labels!
When we struggle with stress, anxiety and overwhelm, we can end up with labels which are given to use by ourselves or well-meaning professionals. These labels create a belief filter and perpetuate judgement. When we begin to see through these labels, we can experience all thoughts and feelings with more ease which allows them to pass more readily. This leaves us more often in a space of calm and clarity.

The 'outside-in' misunderstanding does not follow logic because it is not constant and thinking the world works this way can lead us down all sorts of rabbit holes. The wonderful thing about the ‘inside-out’ understanding is that it is logical and works all the time precisely, practically, and helpfully. This helps us to feel calm and think clearly more of the time.

The Truth About Separate Realities
We all have a unique perception of everything created by thought in the moment. This is known as separate realities. When we don’t see this, we can end up frustrated by other people’s behaviour and overwhelmed by continually wondering why they are doing what they are doing. When we see separate realities which are created by each individual’s unique conditioned thinking, we can find ourselves feeling calmer, having more clarity and in a place of compassion more of the time.

The Future Is Unknown
We cannot accurately predict the future but trying to do that is utterly human. We all have thoughts about the future and how we will feel in it. We get this wrong because we cannot predict the future or know what our thinking (and therefore feelings) will be when something happens. When you realise that the future is unknown, you can relate to your thinking about it in a much calmer way.

Getting Off The Train Of Thought
It is human to get caught up in a train of thought. However, it is helpful to bring awareness to our feeling state when we are there. Every time that you bring your awareness to some feeling and remember that thought is creating your experience, you get a little closer to feeling calm and thinking clearly more often.

The Outside-In Misunderstanding Or The Inside-Out Truth
There are two ways to understand how life works; the inside-out and the outside-in. The outside-in creates much suffering and takes us away from peace of mind. It makes life much more complicated. However, the inside-out helps us to feel calm and think clearly more of the time. It makes things much simpler.

Innate Wellbeing Is Always Yours
We all have innate wellbeing like an inner power containing unbreakable resilience, confidence and peace of mind. We always have had, and we always will. No human is emotionally broken, it's just sometimes our thinking and the messages in world around us might tell us otherwise. We are all whole well and perfectly made like a diamond inside. Seeing this helps us to feel calm and think clearly more of the time.

Now You See It, Now You Don't
When we are exploring the inside-out understanding it can be easy to get caught up in self-judgement; thinking that we should be able to feel calm and think clearly all the time once we 'get' this. Sometimes we get fooled by the outside-in and sometimes we see it is inside-out. That's called being human! When we accept that we will not always be calm, ironically calm tends to emerge more easily.
