Everything you need to know is inside of you.

How do you communicate with your inner self?

With your subconscious,

Your heart mind?

Is there something you would like further insight about?

Are you looking for an answer or guidance or inspiration from within?

The deepest part of yourself connects and communicates with you while you sleep through images,

Metaphors,

And archetypes,

Which we oftentimes put into a narrative story and have intense feelings about.

Through dream incubation,

We can begin the conversation to ask for the guidance we are searching for.

By incubating a dream,

You have the power to ask for further insight,

Creative inspiration,

And or heart wisdom from your own inner voice and being.

Your deepest wishes and desires are illuminated nightly through your dreams.

Ancient wisdom lies within your subconscious mind.

So you can ask your dreams for more insight into anything,

Because your dreams tell you all you need to know.

This is a short process of incubating a dream that I would like to share with you.

Close your eyes.

Take three deep breaths.

One,

To clear your thoughts.

Two,

To settle in your body.

Three,

To completely empty into the space that you are in.

Now,

I invite you to sense into your body and bring into awareness what you are feeling in this present moment.

Where does this sensation lie?

Where do you feel the sensation in your body?

Feel into this space.

Put a hand on it if it helps to bring the sensation into focus.

Where do you feel the sensation in your body?

And now stay with this feeling for a few breaths.

You are going to remember this feeling,

And we'll come back to this.

Next,

Ask your heart.

What is it that I would like more guidance about?

Take the time to ask your heart.

What is it that I would like more guidance about?

What comes to you from this space?

Or what has been with you recently that you know you would like to dream of?

Is there something in your heart that you know you would like more guidance about?

Is there something in your heart that you would like to dream of?

As you think about this,

I invite you to feel into any sensations that arise from these thoughts.

Feel into your body.

Breathe.

And let any feelings arise anywhere within you.

Once you are aware of this feeling and where it lies within the body,

Stay with this feeling.

Place a hand on it if needed.

Stay with this feeling for a few breaths.

If there's more than one place in the body you are feeling sensations,

Try to hold them both for another few breaths.

Remember this feeling as we will be coming back to this as well.

Now,

We're going to welcome a dream image that you have had recently to come back into your vision.

It can be a single image that you can sense into or the overall feeling of a piece of a dream or an entire dream.

Let it arise with your breath,

Welcoming this dream image back into your body or your mind's eye.

The feeling of a recent dream.

Once you have this dream within you,

Notice what feelings arise from this dream.

Sense into the body.

Sense into the dream or into the moment of a dream.

Breathe into the dream.

It may be an image of someone or the environment of the dream,

Maybe your feeling in the dream.

Once you have the feeling in the body,

Hold onto it and breathe into that.

Just stay with it.

Feel it in the body.

What does this sensation feel like?

Breathe into this space or this place in your body for a few breaths.

Again,

Use your hand if it helps.

Hold and breathe into this feeling,

Place in your body.

While still holding this dream sensation,

Invite back into your body the feeling of the present moment.

I encourage you to hold the dream image sensation and the first sensation we found in your body today.

Hold the two,

Breathe while feeling both spaces.

And lastly,

Bring in the second sensation we found,

What your heart asked for guidance into.

Feel into that space in your body.

And now hold the three sensations for a minute.

Holding all three sensations in your body for another few breaths.

Okay.

This is your dream incubation.

I encourage you to take at least five minutes at another point during your day and breathe into these spaces,

Holding the three at the same time,

Meditating with your dream incubation.

No need to go over the thoughts or questions or the entire dream.

This is just breathing and holding the feelings in your body.

And then you do this again every night before bed for one to two minutes.

You do this dream meditation for one to two weeks and see what dreams come.

Journal your dreams over this period.

You can look over my tips for recording your dreams on my website for a recap.

And you will know when you have the dream that offers the insight you are asking for.

You'll know it.

I am here to offer my support and my guidance into any dreams that may come forth.

Sweet dreaming.

Namaste.

This is precisely the kind of recording that makes the IT app so useful and delightful to me: a detailed, slightly advanced yet entirely accessible technique for working with dreams that I have been looking for for years, and even available for free. I would not recommend this exercise to total newcomers to meditation and/or dreamwork; it is a “200” level course, if you will, and also explores very different and more specific material than the “average” meditation/visualization here on IT (assuming such a thing really exists). It would be wise to as least have your feet wet (& know how to swim/how not to drown in confusion) before you dive this deep the first time. Bears repeat listening; in fact, I intend to relisten ASAP, because I suspect that the more you understand and trust the technique it teaches you, the more you can do with that technique. And—I confess—while the instructions are perfectly clear and well explained, I still had trouble following them and recalling their results a few minutes later. (Heads up: Pay close attention to the early part where you are asked to remember three sensations, because they absolutely WILL be on the final exam.)
