Hey,
What can I look at?
One section of the gospel.
Of Matthew.
It's a section in the gospel where Jesus is teaching us how to pray.
The Sola Gospel of Matthew.
Actually it's so rich in the actual words of Jesus.
His voice.
All of the Gospels are filled with stories.
About Jesus?
This particular gospel though.
.
.
It seems like.
.
.
There's a lot more of what Jesus actually taught his disciples.
His voice,
His teaching,
His words.
So in this one section of Matthew,
In section or chapter 6,
Jesus teaches us the Lord's Prayer.
So what I'm going to read is from.
Because chapter six has a lot,
But I'm going to read just the part on prayer,
Which is verses five.
Through.
Versus 13.
Now,
In the Catholic tradition,
You may or may not know that.
Before the gospel is read.
There's a little action that goes on where.
We place our foams on the forehead and we make a small cross.
Then we move down to our lips and we place another small cross and then we move down to the space.
Around our hearts and another small cross and we do this because we're preparing ourselves to be worthy to receive and allow the Word of God,
The words of Jesus,
To be transformed in our minds.
On our lips,
The words we speak,
And in our hearts.
If you like,
You can cross your head.
Your lips and your heart.
And we will begin.
From the Gospel of Matthew chapter 6 verse 5.
And when you pray,
Do not be like the hypocrites,
For they love to pray standing in synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men.
I tell you the truth,
They have received their reward in full.
When you pray,
Go into your room.
Close the door and pray to your father who is unseen.
Then your father,
Who sees what is done in secret,
Will reward you.
And when you pray,
Do not keep on babbling like pagans,
For they think they will be heard because of their many words.
Do not be like them,
For your father knows what you need before you ask him.
This then is how you should pray.
Our Father in Heaven.
Hell be your name.
Your kingdom come,
Your will be done.
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our debts,
As we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation.
But deliver us from the evil one.
Amen.
So now.
.
.
The Lord's Prayer,
If we look at it,
One.
Verse at a time and really contemplate.
What it says.
It changes the way we pray.
It changes our head,
Our minds,
Our lips,
And our hearts.
So the first The first line,
Our Father in Heaven.
How would be your name?
What does that mean?
We contemplate our father in heaven,
Hell be your name.
Your kingdom come.
Your will be done.
On earth as it is in heaven.
Your kingdom come,
Your will be done,
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our debts.
Sometimes you'll hear it.
Forgive us our trespasses.
Forgive us our debts.
Is we also have forgiven our debtors.
That's huge when we look into our hearts and we're speaking to God.
And we're saying,
Forgive us our debts.
As we also have forgiven our debtors.
Wow.
So what happens if we've not forgiven our debtors and we're asking God to treat us the same way?
Forgive us our trespasses or forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors,
As we forgive those who trespass against us.
So where in our hearts are we not forgiving?
Because that's pretty much what we're asking God to do for us,
What we do for others.
And lead us not we go on and lead us not into temptation.
And lead us not into temptation.
That's what it is.
Help me,
Lord.
Help me not to be tempted by my human nature.
And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from the evil one.
Amen.
And amen is.
Be it done let it be done i believe it's I agree.
Amen.
The one part I wasn't going to read,
But I just changed my mind.
Is the 14th verse of the sixth chapter,
After the Lord teaches us his prayer to the Father.
He goes on to say,
Jesus goes on to say,
4.
If you forgive men when they sin against you.
Your Heavenly Father will also forgive you.
But if you do not forgive men their sins,
Your Father will not forgive your sins.
Guess that's the contemplation for today,
For now.
I thank you for.
.
.
Being here.
And considering God be with you.
Amen.
