You ever wake up at 3am,
You're staring at the ceiling wishing your brain would just shut up.
Or you've just come off a very long gig and your head is buzzing from the lights,
The sound,
The chaos,
The adrenaline.
I've been there.
So let me give you one of my all time favorite sleep hacks.
You could do it right now.
It's easy,
It's simple,
And you're going to feel better.
I'm Jessica Kornowski and I have toured the world massaging some of the biggest names in music and spent years learning how to keep the body calm,
Even when life is crazy.
When you work in the music industry,
Your nervous system is like,
Stadium show chaos It never fully powers down until you make it power down.
And that's where this little scalp massage comes in.
It's one of the simplest ways to send your brain the signal,
Hey,
It's safe to rest now.
It's time to calm down.
So here's what we're going to do.
You're going to find Now this ridge here is called the occipital ridge.
And you're going to very slowly press little circles up and down.
Around the ear.
From the occipital ridge to the temples,
The temporalis muscles.
When you get to the top,
Start over again.
Just draw little circles.
Being sure to breathe.
A lot of tenton likes to hide in these areas and I want you to be sure that you are using the tips of your fingers,
Not your fingernails.
You don't have to push very hard at all.
You just really want to move.
The muscles and skin on top of the body.
On top of the bones that make up your cranium.
If you find a spot that feels incredibly good,
You can stay in that spot.
Doing little rotations and taking a deep breath in.
So what you do when you massage from your occipital to your temporals,
It's like a reset button of your nervous system.
When you do it two or three times,
Taking your time,
Feeling a difference,
Feeling the movement of the skin and the muscles,
Here's what you're doing.
You're actually stimulating pressure points and muscle fibers connected to your cranial nerves.
So these nerves talk directly to your brain's control center for stress and relaxation.
When you massage these areas,
You're basically telling your brain it's time to switch on the parasympathetic nervous system,
Which is the rest and digest mode.
When you do this,
Your heart rate slows,
Your breath can deepen,
And your thoughts will quiet.
You're basically resetting your neurotransmitters.
When you also add in the slow,
Deep breathing,
You are calming down the body.
So the next time you're stuck wide awake,
Post-show adrenaline,
Jet lag,
Or just the busy,
Anxious mind,
Skip the scrolling,
Turn off your electronics,
And try this instead.
Your body will thank you.
