Hi and welcome.
Today we are going to be talking about a coaching strategy to reframe our thoughts when it comes to challenges.
For me,
I like to have a notebook and kind of write out my thoughts,
But if you want to do this with your mind,
That's totally fine too.
But for today,
We're going to be thinking about when a challenge does arise,
Right?
When an obstacle comes up,
What is the reaction our body is having and what can we do to shift our mindset to see it more as a learning opportunity or a moment for growth?
Versus our initial maybe emotional reaction that we have.
So to start,
I'm going to break up my page into three categories.
So I'm going to write challenge,
Reaction,
And lesson.
If you want to,
Again,
Just do this in your mind,
That's fine too.
And I want to add a thought for you as well of when a challenge comes up,
Right,
Our amygdala is being triggered,
And that is going to flood us with cortisol,
Which is our stress response.
So we are probably experiencing maybe fight,
Flight,
Freeze,
Maybe even a fawn response.
So during those moments,
Before we can get to the point of wisdom,
Before we can get to the point where we learn something from that challenge,
We might just need to take a breath.
We might need to do some grounding exercises to reset ourselves first so that we can get past the point where our prefrontal cortex has been triggered.
And right,
That cortisol that's pumping,
It makes it so that the front of the mind where our decision-making ability is,
It might not be at the best point to be there.
Yet so taking a moment to ground ourselves first can really help it so that we can relook at this from a reflective standpoint and hopefully grab a lesson out of it.
So again today we are writing down challenge,
Reaction,
And lesson and I want us to just practice with maybe a little obstacle that's coming up in your way that's been major for today just a little tiny challenge.
I'll do this as well so for me The challenge I'm gonna talk about is,
I work from home,
Right?
I'm a life coach,
So I am at home all day,
And so I find my mornings are really productive,
But my afternoons,
My energy really goes down.
So that's my challenge,
Is that my afternoon energy is a little bit low.
When I look at my reaction,
So what do I do during this time?
I might binge watch a little bit of TV.
Sometimes I lay down.
I kind of just feel meh.
I just feel awful.
All right,
So we have our challenge,
We have our reaction.
The last part is our lesson.
So what is our takeaway that we're getting from our reaction?
And I want us to look at this with curiosity,
Not judgment.
We are not judging ourselves today.
But based off of my reaction,
The lesson I'm seeing,
And really just Think that one through,
I don't want you to rush that process.
But some of my takeaways are,
Okay,
Maybe I need some rest time.
I don't know if the TV binge watching is giving me the rest that I need,
So maybe I need to be more mindful of what that rest looks like.
Um.
.
.
Maybe I need some movement to re-energize,
Maybe a change of environment.
Okay,
So looking at those takeaways.
I think it's telling me I need a schedule.
I need a routine for the afternoons.
My morning routine is going well,
But I honestly don't really have an afternoon routine.
So maybe that's what my lesson is and my takeaway.
As I think on this more,
I might get some more things out of my reaction or lessons to pull away from it.
But for today,
I think that's a good place to start is let's try to make a schedule for myself.
So hopefully you were able to do this as well with a small challenge or obstacle that's coming up with you and think through like,
Okay,
Here was my challenge,
What was my reaction,
Not judging,
And then what is the lesson I take away from it,
Right?
When we can look at these things with curiosity,
When we can be more grounded and thoughtful and not having an emotional reaction we're able to kind of take some wisdom from it we're able to figure out like what is it that my body is telling me what is my mind telling me in these moments so again just a simple strategy you can use when an obstacle does come up when you are trying to overcome a challenge so that in the future if this happens again you've already kind of thought through and reflected on let's try this strategy to see if it helps all right that's it that's all i got for us today i appreciate you visiting and I hope you come back soon.
Bye!
