Information isn't necessarily transformation.
In other words,
Knowing what you need to do isn't the same as doing.
For example,
You know that taking a short walk could help your energy.
You know that preparing lunch ahead of time will make your week easier.
And you know that you would feel better if you finally just started that thing you've been putting off,
But you still don't do it.
That does not mean you're unmotivated or undisciplined or just bad at life.
It just means that there's a gap between understanding what might help and what would actually help you be able to make it happen in real life.
Because real whites because real life has a way of getting involved.
You're tired,
You're busy.
Your day changes.
The plan suddenly feels too big.
Maybe you tried before and it didn't last.
So now the thing you know that you should do also comes with a side order of guilt because you didn't get it done in the past.
Now guilt might motivate you for a minute,
But it's not a very peaceful place to build a new habit from.
So.
Let's try taking the pressure down a notch.
You don't need a giant reset.
You don't need to fix every single part of your life or your routine or become a completely different person overnight.
You just need one calm,
Specific next action.
Something that feels small enough to begin.
Even when you don't feel especially motivated.
So instead of saying,
I need to exercise more,
Try this.
After I finish lunch,
I'll walk outside for five minutes.
Instead of saying,
I need to eat better,
I need to eat healthier.
Try this instead.
Breakfast tomorrow I'm going to add one food that will help me feel satisfied.
Something like yogurt,
Eggs,
Beans,
Or fruit with nuts.
And instead of saying,
Oh,
I need to get organized,
Try this.
I'm going to spend 10 minutes today clearing that one spot where I need to work.
A helpful next action is clear,
Not just a vague goal or vague intention.
An action that you can actually picture yourself doing.
Where it has a place in your day and it doesn't require you to completely change everything else first.
And that last part really matters because when a change feels difficult or overwhelming,
We assume we need more wheel powder.
We often assume we need more.
We often assume that we need more willpower or motivation or discipline to get it done.
When in actuality,
Sometimes what we really need is just less friction.
So for example,
Could you put your walking shoes by the door?
That will trigger you when you see them,
That will trigger you to remember to go for that walk.
Could you set out the ingredients for breakfast the night before?
Or better yet,
Could you prepare your breakfast the night before?
Could you open that document that you've been avoiding and just write one sentence?
Make the first step easier to reach and make it small enough that your success doesn't depend on having a perfect day where you achieved 10 priority tasks.
Now,
You might be thinking,
Well,
Five minutes isn't good.
Now,
You might be thinking,
Well,
Five minutes isn't going to change much.
And maybe it won't by itself.
But a small action,
Trust me on this,
Can change what happens next,
And then next,
And next,
Because you've started.
And now you've given your brain evidence that you can follow through.
And tomorrow you can decide whether to repeat it.
Or build on it.
The goal here is to simply create a doorway that you can actually walk through.
To get to your goals,
To get to your achievements.
The goal here is to simply create an open doorway that you can walk through.
So pause for a moment and ask yourself,
What's one change I've been thinking about?
What's one thing that's really been bothering me?
And what is the smallest useful action that I could take towards it.
And when specifically could I do that?
Keep your answers simple.
Just identify one action and identify one moment in your day where you could take that action.
You can begin when you're uncertain.
You can begin imperfectly.
You can begin with five minutes,
One choice,
Or one sentence.
Just knowing can point you toward a change.
A small action helps you enter it.
So choose your doorway and then take the next calm,
Likely step.
