What is ego?

Ego is something that we all have.

Ego is not something that one person has in the office.

The typical jerk.

Ego is your individual self-concept.

Ego is who you think you are.

You can begin by.

.

.

Thinking about your name.

Your individual name.

And then upon that name which you're given.

You also begin in life to develop a story.

Or a narrative about who you think you are.

Your trials,

Your tribulations,

Your challenges,

Your traumas.

The ego within us.

Begins to accumulate a story.

And this story.

Often has quite a few negative core beliefs.

Such as.

.

.

I'm not good enough.

The world doesn't like me.

There's a feeling of not enough-ness in every moment.

There's a yearning for more.

Now,

The ego is a survival creature.

It's a survival being.

Meaning that throughout the thousands of years of evolution in the human story,

The ego has kept us alive,

It's kept the species alive.

It's about.

.

.

Searching for safety,

Searching for more,

Being safe.

And always establishing.

This I,

This concept of who we think we are.

Now what's the problem with ego?

The problem with ego is that the ego doesn't feel satisfied.

Ever.

So in your life you'll likely have.

An experience where you've tried to arrange life.

So that it works for you.

It could be that you looked for social validation.

It could be that you went to food or substances.

It could be that you went to shopping.

And this will drive you into the abyss if you listen to the talking of the ego for your entire life and live as the ego because remember it's not you the ego is part of you but it's not the whole of you You are that which sees ego.

But most of us move through life as the ego.

That's what most of us do.

The problem with that is that it will drive us into unhappiness.

From a Buddhist perspective.

This is what they call dukkha.

Suffering.

The ego is always looking for more and it's never satisfied.

So what you can begin to do is.

.

.

Study your own ego.

Notice it.

Notice what triggers you.

Notice this feeling of not enough in your life because it will be there.

Notice this feeling of I don't feel quite comfortable.

And if you really get raw with yourself and honest with yourself,

It's always there.

Part of the human condition.

And also notice it in others.

You'll notice how other people in the world around you live in and as ego.

And that's totally normal.

It's the default setting for being a human.

We're born and we almost sign up to live as ego.

You could call it awakening happens.

One of the first levels of awakening because there are different levels.

The first level of awakening is discovering your own ego and noticing that you can stand back from it.

You are the awareness.

And the ego with all of its insufficiency and feelings of inadequacy is something you can see.

Over time.

You'll get better,

You'll get more skilled.

Of observing the ego and not living as it.
