Welcome to this meditation.
And overstimulation.
You may find yourself here after experiencing too much stimulation in the outside world.
To the point that it is affecting your inside world.
Together.
We're going to turn down the dial.
As you follow the sound of my voice.
If possible,
And safe to do so,
Make your surroundings dark or dim.
Now softly and gently close your eyes.
We're going to close the door to the outside world.
Now keeping your eyes gently closed.
Softly.
Visualize that you are going to close a physical door.
See your hand reach for the doorknob What kind of a door is it?
Notice the door's characteristics.
What colour is it?
Notice the doorknob's texture.
Is the door heavy or light to swing shut?
We're going to gently close this door.
To the outside world.
Next,
Notice your physical sense.
What is the temperature where you are?
Does your skin feel warm or cold?
Is it dry?
Do you feel a breeze or is the air still on your skin?
Now gently place your hands softly together in your lap.
One cradling the other.
We're going to gently hold something small.
And soft.
In this cradling cupping of the hands.
Gently cradle this soft,
Small thing safely in your hands.
Next,
Notice your nose and your mouth.
Become aware of any sense.
Become aware of any tastes.
Maybe you can taste something that you recently ate.
Observe the smells and the scents nearby.
And appreciate the ability you have.
Perceive this often forgotten sense.
Enjoy a few more moments of one more of your five physical senses.
You have closed the vision door.
You have recognized the touch.
You are aware of the taste and you appreciate the smells.
Lastly,
Hearing.
Dial down all other sounds.
Dial down all other thoughts.
Close the door to thoughts for a moment.
Visualize yourself turning down a dial.
Softly.
Slowly.
Visualize that this tile has turned down and toned down your senses.
Now gently turn down the hearing dial.
As we Sit through three chimes.
And on the third chime.
We will close the meditation with a deep breath.
Good.
No.
Bring in a deep,
Slow breath.
Filling up your lungs.
And let out a long.
Slow sigh.
You're now able.
To softly open your eyes and bring your senses gently back to the present moment.
Your five senses have been fully reset.
And restored.
Thank you for practicing with me.
Feel free to use this exercise anytime.
You're feeling overstimulated.
And return to this meditation.
As many times as you need to.
