Hello,
It's Eve here.
Welcome to this gratitude meditation designed to help you drift into a restful sleep by focusing on positive soothing thoughts and feelings from your day.
Practicing gratitude at night gently helps to settle the mind,
To experience a feeling of appreciation for the things that we have,
The experiences we get to share,
The moments with others.
Even amidst when things feel challenging and difficult,
There can be moments,
Even small moments of appreciation and gratitude.
So take a moment to get into a comfortable position.
Perhaps you'd like to lie down in bed or to be seated,
Whatever feels best for you.
So,
Allowing your arms and legs to relax and softly closing your eyes and taking a few slow,
Gentle breaths in through your nose and an exhale through your mouth.
And notice the support beneath you,
Allowing your body to feel heavy and at ease.
So,
Gently breathing at your own rhythm and rate,
Really giving the mind and body permission to pause,
To rest.
And as the day comes to an end,
Inviting a sense of calm,
A gentle reminder to yourself that this time is for you to recharge and nurture yourself.
This idea with each inhale,
Imagining you're welcoming a sense of peace.
And with each exhale,
Picture releasing the weight of the day.
And let's begin by gently exploring areas of your life that perhaps bring a sense of appreciation or gratitude.
And as we move through this practice,
Feel free to linger on any thought or feeling that feels especially meaningful.
So,
To begin with,
Noticing your body,
How it carries you through life,
Supports you,
Grounds you,
And silently thanking your body for its strength and resilience,
Its ability to heal,
To recover.
And acknowledging your breath,
Your heartbeat,
Your senses.
And if you like,
Placing a hand on your chest or your belly as a gesture of appreciation for all that your magnificent body does.
And even during the hardest moments,
The moments that feel like they are too much to overcome,
Gently breathing,
Gently acknowledging your body in this moment.
And then beginning to shift the focus now to reflecting or bringing to mind one or two positive moments from your day,
No matter how small.
Maybe it was a kind word someone said,
A comforting meal,
A moment of laughter,
Or simply making it through a tough day.
So bringing to mind this moment.
And it's okay if nothing immediately arises.
We are cultivating feelings of appreciation and gratitude.
And perhaps noticing any sensations,
Maybe a feeling of warmth or ease that arises when you recall this moment.
And see if you can allow those feelings to arise without needing to force anything.
Notice what arises naturally in the mind.
It could be as simple as that delicious cup of coffee I had first thing this morning.
Or simply that you are inviting yourself now to rest,
To be at ease.
And then shifting the focus now just gently.
And bringing to mind someone who perhaps brought a sense of comfort or companionship today,
Or someone that you just deeply appreciate.
This might be a family member,
A friend,
Or even someone you briefly connected with.
So picture this person,
Perhaps silently thanking them for their presence in your life.
And imagine sending them your warm wishes,
That feeling of gratitude expanding in your heart.
And now very,
Very gently,
We're going to turn those feelings of appreciation inwards.
So bringing to mind something about yourself that you appreciate.
It might be your courage,
Your humor,
Your perseverance,
Or your kindness.
Simply observing and acknowledging this quality in you.
Maybe even silently saying,
I'm grateful for my courage.
Whatever it is,
See if you can really be with a sense of appreciation for all that you do.
All of the struggles that you have overcome,
All of the ways in which you have shown up for others.
And notice how it feels to appreciate yourself.
Allowing that feeling to soften and soothe you.
And allowing your focus now to drift to very simple comforts.
The softness of your pillow,
The warmth of your blanket,
Or the quiet around you.
Thanking the small things that help you feel cozy and safe.
Rest in the feeling of being cared for right here,
Right now.
As this meditation comes to a close,
Letting your body become heavier and your breath softer.
Allowing any remaining thoughts or worries to float away.
Returning gently to your gratitude practice if your mind wanders.
And know that this sense of appreciation is available to you any time.
Nurturing your heart and calming your mind.
Inviting yourself to drift toward sleep.
Bathed in feelings of gratitude and peace.
There is nothing more you need to do.
Just rest,
Restore,
And embrace the gentle comfort of gratitude as you sleep.
I'll let the music play for a few more minutes.
Thank you for practicing with me and wishing you a restful night's sleep.
