Many people think the Divine Feminine is about being soft.
Calm.
And nurturing.
The modern wellness version often keeps the flowers and loses the fire.
It suggests you are strong in your softness.
But not that you are allowed to be angry sometimes.
I spent years trying to be softer,
Quieter,
More serene.
I thought that was the word.
And then I met Shakti.
She of a thousand faces.
In the world's spiritual traditions.
The Divine Feminine is powerful and multifaceted.
She births galaxies and she breathes life into cells.
She appears as love and as truth.
As creation and as destruction.
As tenderness and as fierce protection.
In the Hindu tradition,
Kali wears a garland of skulls.
She is love.
Kind that makes you face what you think you can't face.
Because you have to.
There is a morning practice I return to,
That you bring your hands together like this and look into them.
At your fingertips is Goddess Lakshmi,
Abundance,
The capacity to create.
In the hollow of your palm,
Saraswati,
Wisdom,
Everything you need to know.
At your wrist's dagger.
Power,
Courage,
Noble deeds.
All of it already in your hands and this is what the Divine Feminine actually is.
Not something to become.
Something to embody.
As you've walked through your own life,
You've probably noticed there are two emotions you're not really supposed to have,
Anger and desire.
Not coincidentally,
These are the two that most clearly say I am here.
I know what I need and I will not make myself small.
To make you comfortable.
It's your hormones,
You're too much.
I'm sure you've heard some version of both of those.
And you learned quietly to agree.
To manage yourself back into acceptability.
But a spirituality worth its name doesn't ask you to manage yourself into smallness.
To abandon who you were made to be.
Life is not made of a single note.
Beauty includes wealth.
Love includes truth.
Aliveness includes grief,
Longing,
Delight.
Irritation,
Laughter.
The Divine Feminine isn't a personality type.
She doesn't float through meadows wearing a long dress.
She is a thousand things at once.
As are you.
She is the recognition that life moves through many expressions.
She isn't the absence of emotion.
She is the willingness to be fully alive.
And part of the journey is realising.
We don't have to cut off the parts of ourselves that are messy.
Passionate,
Grieving,
Or powerful.
In order to be spiritual.
When I realised I didn't need to reject parts of myself in order to grow.
I found that I unfolded into places I had never stretched into before.
As women,
Many of us are conditioned to be smaller than we are.
And the Divine Feminine isn't asking you to become less.
She never was.
She is asking you to feel it all.
And call that sacred.
