Welcome,
I'm Lindsay.
If you've ever found yourself caught in an endless loop of overthinking,
Second guessing every choice,
Or wondering why your mind just won't give you a moment's peace,
You're in the right place.
Most of us have lived with a conditioned critical voice in our head.
I call this voice Sue,
And Sue operates through three primary drives that spell her name.
So the S is for safety,
Trying to keep you safe from danger.
Alive,
But not necessarily happy.
U is for uncertainty,
So trying to outrun the unknown.
And E is for exposure,
Which is managing how you are seen by others.
So the invitation is always to notice Sue,
But to stop taking her so personally.
Yet a question almost always comes up.
If you're not supposed to listen to Sue,
If I take my hands off the wheel,
Then who on earth is driving?
What do I listen to instead?
How will I know what to do?
And these are completely fair questions.
Sue,
For all her noise,
Has felt like your guidance system for most of your life.
She's the one who's been warning you,
Planning for you,
And keeping you in line.
The thought of letting her go can feel genuinely frightening,
Like you'd become careless,
Reckless,
Or completely fall apart.
So nobody lets go of Sue until they understand what is there instead to guide us.
So look honestly at your own experience.
Has all of the worrying and rehearsing and second-guessing actually kept you safe?
Or has it just kept you tired and doubting yourself?
So rather than helping you live a better life,
Has it just kept you trapped in your head,
Disconnected from the present moment?
So I want you to think about a time when you felt at your absolute best,
A moment when you knew exactly what to say,
And it came out really clear,
Really clean,
Without any rehearsal,
Or a decision that you made quickly and easily and never regretted.
Were you overthinking in those moments?
No,
It was the opposite of overthinking.
Sue was quiet and something clearer was there.
And you know this feeling far better than you think.
So you might have walked into a house you want to rent or buy,
And within a few seconds,
You know whether it's a yes or no before you've even consciously processed it.
Then the mind arrives,
Sue arrives with her pros and cons list to talk you in or out of what you already know.
So underneath all that deliberating,
There is a quiet knowing that gets there long before Sue builds her case.
That clear,
Settled intelligence is what has been keeping you safe all along.
Not the noise.
We've had it completely backwards.
We've been crediting Sue for managing our lives,
Keeping us on track,
Ensuring we're a good person,
When in truth,
She's mostly been getting in the way of the clear,
Capable,
Resilient wisdom that actually is you.
I call this underlying intelligence your ordinary magnificence.
You might refer to it as universal intelligence,
Or divine energy,
Or nature,
Or your soul.
And in my mind,
It's ordinary because it isn't some elite state that we have to earn or achieve or meditate for 20 years to find.
It's simply who you are when you aren't lost in the voice of Su,
When you aren't lost in your mind,
Lost in thinking.
And it's magnificent because it turns out to be entirely enough.
It's the same natural intelligence that spins the planet and digests your foods and turns the seasons.
You don't need fixing,
Improving or managing because this core part of you was never broken in the first place.
Your clear knowing isn't a new authority to obey.
It's not louder than Sue.
It's quieter,
But it's constant.
It's the wisdom and the common sense underneath all of the static in the mind.
So you don't reach this quiet knowing by trying harder.
Trying harder is just Sue again,
Attempting to manage the very thing that she's blocking.
So you reach it through subtraction,
Not addition.
You don't need more strategies or routines or self-improvement projects.
When you stop feeding Sue's noise with your constant attention,
When you let a worried thought pass without analyzing it,
The water settles and a settled mind is a naturally clear one.
So your clear knowing doesn't vanish when life gets hard.
It's there at 2am when your mind starts racing.
It's there if a difficult conversation rattles you.
The goal isn't a completely silent mind.
The goal is for your mind to be busy and for you to feel okay anyway.
So letting go of Sue isn't about giving up your responsibility.
It's about finally trusting what is reliable and constant underneath her.
So think of it as an inner GPS that has been running the whole time.
You don't need to carry yourself like a problem to be solved.
You can simply step back,
Notice when Sue starts to speak up,
And trust the quiet,
Capable presence underneath her.
So thank you for spending this time with me today.
Take a deep breath,
Leave Sue to her noise,
And come home to your own ordinary magnificence.
