Welcome to the meditation of arriving,
Softening and letting go in the body Take a posture that allows both dignity and ease.
If you are sitting in formal meditation posture,
Let the spine rise naturally upright,
But not stiff.
Let the head balance gently over the neck with the chin slightly tucked in.
Let the shoulders sink a little lower away from the head.
Feel the hands resting easily on the knees or thighs.
If sitting on a chair is more supportive,
Sit with both feet connected to the ground.
If your body needs rest today,
You may also lie down on the bed or mat.
This is not about forcing a perfect meditation posture.
It's about listening to the body with respect.
Allow the eyes to close or keep the gaze soft and low if that feels safer or if it helps you stay awake.
Sense what wants to let go a little right now.
Not completely,
Not perfectly,
Just a little.
Take a slow breath in through the nose.
And a longer breath out.
Again inhale gently and deeply without forcing exhale with softness as if the body is learning that it does not have to keep performing right now Let the exhale be a signal of permission.
Taking one more deep breath in.
Now,
While exhaling,
Begin a simple downward to upward body scan.
Start with the toes and soles of the feet.
Maybe notice pressure,
Tingling.
Coolness,
Warmth.
Ease or even a numbness in the toes and soles of both feet.
Move up through the ankles,
Calves.
And shin bong.
Notice any sensations here.
The knees.
The thighs.
The pelvis and hips.
To lower belly.
And lower back.
The upper belly.
And the middle back.
Sense into the belly and maybe allow to receive a little more space here Move the attention to the chest and the upper back allow more space in the area of the chest The shoulders.
Let the shoulders soften and become filled with awareness.
The upper arms.
Elbows,
Forearms,
Wrists and hands sensing into this aliveness and hands Sensing into the neck and trapezius muscles The muscles spreading from the back side of the shoulder to the back side of the neck Sensing into the throat.
Ciao.
The muscles around the mouth.
The mouth from the inside,
The gums.
Tom.
Let the tongue relax on the lower palate of the mouth.
Softening from the tip of the tongue all the way to its roots.
The cheeks.
The ears.
The eyes and the muscles around the eyes.
Forehead.
Relaxing the forehead.
The temples.
The scalp area of the head.
The whole head.
Now take one deeper in-breath and sense into the whole sitting or laying breathing body.
Do not search for a perfect experience.
Just notice what is here.
If it feels natural,
Allow the hint of a soft inner smile spreading through the sky of your mind and the body.
Not only as a slight expression around the mouth and the corners of the mouth,
But as a quality of friendliness towards the body.
A slight smile filling the space in the body.
If you notice tension anywhere,
Or even numbness,
There is no need to fight it.
Simply acknowledge what is present Feel whether the holding has a niche.
A center,
A temperature,
Or a movement.
Let awareness touch it lightly.
Quietly say inwardly.
This too is here.
This too is allowed for now.
Let the body hear that it does not have to hide its condition from awareness.
Now bring to mind one mild but real area of stress,
Pressure,
Or unfinished emotional charge.
Do not choose the biggest wound in your life.
Choose something workable.
As you bring it to mind,
Notice how the body responds before the story grows.
Where do you feel the response first?
In the fro.
The chest,
The solar plexus.
To belly.
The face.
Stay curious.
Let the body be the first language.
Rather than analyzing the event,
Describe the sensation inwardly.
Is it tight or diffuse?
Heavy or buzzy.
Sharp or dull.
Hold.
Cool,
Hollow,
Dense,
Shaky.
No.
Pressure.
The more precisely you sense,
The less you need to dramatize.
Now let the breath move around the sensation Simply allow the inhale to create a little room around what is felt.
And allow the exhale to reduce the extra struggle around it You are not trying to erase the feeling.
You are practicing how to meet it without adding another layer of contraction.
If thoughts arise about why this is happening,
What should change,
What someone else did or what you should have done,
Gently notice those thoughts and return to sensation.
There will be time for reflection later.
Right now the practice is to stay close to the body and let the body tell the truth in its own language you may quietly repeat to yourself.
I do not need to fight this moment.
I can feel this and stay here I can soften and begin to let go Now sense whether the feeling wants anything from you.
More space.
More bread?
More warm.
More time.
If it feels supportive,
Place one hand where the emotional charge is most noticeable.
Let the touch be steady warm and non-demanding the meaning of kindness and care.
For what is being sensed.
Stay here for several breaths.
The hand,
The breath.
The sensation.
The support beneath you If the body wants to sigh,
Yawn,
Swallow,
Tremble slightly or shift,
Allow it.
These small movements can be part of release.
Trust the body's quiet intelligence Perhaps something heavy begins to soften.
Perhaps something hard begins to soften or even melt.
Like ice becoming water and water becoming vapor.
Nothing needs to be forced.
Just allow any small natural release to happen in its own way.
Now widen awareness to the whole body again.
Notice that one area of stress does not define the whole of experience.
Feel the body touching the ground.
Feel the breath.
Feel the room around you.
Let the moment be simpler than the mind wants to make it.
Reflect gently on how this same pause can be used in daily life.
Before sending a message.
Before defending yourself before eating from stress.
Before trying to explain away a feeling.
One pause.
One slower exhale.
One body check.
One moment of choosing presence over automatic reaction.
To close,
Feel the whole body again.
Listen to the sounds that are here.
Notice that you have not needed to fix everything in order to be present.
You have practiced staying.
You have practiced meeting your soul.
You have practiced the beginning of letting go.
Before we close,
One simple reflection.
When the body is given stillness.
It remembers how to soften.
When the heart is given space.
It remembers how to be.
When you're ready.
Invite small movement into the fingers and toes.
Invite some deeper breaths.
And whenever being ready.
Opening the eyes if they were closed,
Slowly.
Carry the slower kind of pace with you throughout the day or die.
