The Serenity Prayer has been a source of strength,

Of refuge,

Of guidance and of humility for all sorts of people in all sorts of situations.

Whether you're here today to deflate the ego,

To ignite a small spark of hope,

Or just to take a healthy pause,

I invite you to breathe deep and trust that this meditation has found you just as much as you've found it.

My favorite method for meditating with the Serenity Prayer is to breathe one phrase in,

Take a slight pause,

And then breathe the next phrase out,

Repeating the cycle and surrendering to both the rhythm and the words.

We'll take one cycle of breath together before we begin,

And we'll repeat the Serenity Prayer a total of three times.

Now,

Take a slow,

Mindful breath in,

And slowly release.

And now breathe in,

Please grant me the serenity,

And breathe out,

To accept the things I cannot change,

And in,

The courage to change the things I can,

And out,

And the wisdom to know the difference,

And in,

Please grant me the serenity,

And out,

To accept the things I cannot change,

And in,

The courage to change the things I can,

And out,

And the wisdom to know the difference,

And in,

Please grant me the serenity,

And out,

To accept the things I cannot change,

And in,

The courage to change the things I can,

And out,

And the wisdom to know the difference.

Serenity is a gift,

A sign of gratitude,

And an acknowledgement of acceptance.

Courage does not mean to proceed fearlessly,

Rather to proceed despite being afraid or unsure.

Change is the only constant,

As the phrase goes,

But change is also a necessary component of growth,

And wisdom can come through intuition,

But wisdom most often comes from making an attempt,

Failing,

And then trying again in a new way.

This prayer reminds me that I have three paths in any situation,

Accept the current reality with as much serenity as is available to me,

To take action to make a change in my current reality,

Or to pause,

Ask for wisdom,

And wait for an intuitive thought or decision,

But I must always remember that I cannot change you or them,

Only my thinking and my next action.

So go forward today with a little more serenity,

A little more courage,

And a little more wisdom.

I look forward to meeting you on the road to happy destiny.
