Peace everyone, Jamal Vickers is a 36-year-old Jamaican-Canadian from Toronto. With 20 years in the music industry—10 as a DJ and 10 in artist management, marketing, A&R, distribution, grant writing, publishing, sync licensing —He's seen firsthand the highs and lows of the creative process. Alongside his career, he's been on a 10-year mindfulness journey. Initially, his goal was to initiate a CE-5 (Close Encounter of the 5th Kind), which he believes he did. Over time, he discovered the profound mental and physical benefits of meditation. What began as short guided sessions evolved into hour plus-long unguided meditations. Today, he shares and teaches mindfulness to friends and family. Further deepening his practice by completing his 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training + adding new modalities He highlighted his career history because it plays a part in this journey. In the music industry, artists often create from personal experiences, but the fast-paced release cycle leaves little room for emotional processing. Fans, streaming platforms, and social media capitalize on their vulnerability, often at their expense. Witnessing this inspired him to launch BALM in 2024—a wellness initiative for industry professionals. It explores mindfulness through yoga, breathwork, and meditation while fostering discussions on therapy, nutrition, rest, and more.
