This is a 7-minute guided meditation. Its intention is to raise your awareness of the inner workings of your body. Learning what occurs when we breathe allows us to understand how important every breath is and lets gratitude easily flow to parts we didn't know existed. Take these visualizations and implement them anytime you need to focus on your breathing, whether during Yoga or a walking meditation. These exercises should help.

Transcript

Peace and welcome.

Thank you for applying today's balm.

This will be a seven minute guided meditation designed to give you a deeper awareness of the inner workings of our body,

The vital exchange.

Let's settle in and find a comfy position for today's practice.

You can let your hands naturally rest in your lap or on your legs.

Let your shoulders relax.

While keeping a straight and engaged spine,

Gently drop your gaze,

Letting the eyes come to a close if they want.

We can begin with a few inhales,

Followed by an open mouth exhale.

And as we exhale,

Let's relax a bit deeper,

Softening your body with each release.

On this next exhale,

Let's bring our awareness to whatever's on our mind today and release it.

Feel it melting away,

Relaxing the body with each exhale.

And as the body finds its natural rhythm,

You may notice the mind beginning to wander.

That's okay.

Let it go.

Follow it.

Notice where it goes.

Don't stay there.

With your awareness on the drifting mind,

Gently bring them back to the breath.

For our visualization,

I invite you to follow the breath.

Bring your awareness to the body.

As we inhale and exhale,

Without knowing it,

We rely on our autonomic nervous system.

The system is responsible for the inner workings of our body.

The workings that we don't turn on or control with our conscious mind.

Following our breath and bringing awareness to our lungs and where the transaction takes place.

With each breath,

Oxygen flows to the lungs by way of the bronchioles.

Like tree branches,

They run through the parenchyma tissue that make up our lungs.

And on the other side,

Laying in wait,

Are the special proteins called hemoglobin,

Packed with carbon dioxide.

The final stop before this fresh oxygen is distributed is the alveolus.

These sacks of air is where the vital exchange happens.

As oxygen fills the sacks,

Diffusion occurs,

Trading CO2 for oxygen.

With the help of the bloodstream,

Hemoglobin can send that fresh oxygen throughout the body.

Let's imagine this journey.

A single protein transporting oxygen from the lungs down to the toes,

Fingers,

Armpits,

Ears,

Calves.

Now let's zoom out.

And know that this process is happening with every breath of every day.

Now,

Let's send gratitude to our lungs and our hemoglobin for taking care of this process so we don't have to.

And as we approach the end of this session,

Bring your awareness back to the room.

Notice the sounds around you.

Identify them.

Take in the aromas and smells.

Taste the saliva in your mouth.

Bring your hands on your legs and body.

And with these four senses engaged,

Let's activate the final one by slowly opening your eyes.
