Take a slow,
Deep breath.
Let your shoulders relax.
For a moment,
Forget about everything you think you should be doing.
There's probably something you've been putting off.
Maybe it's important.
Maybe it's difficult.
Maybe it's just boring.
Maybe you're worried you won't do it well.
And every time you think about it,
You tell yourself.
I'll do it later.
Then later comes and you still don't do it.
If that's happening to you.
Don't beat yourself up.
You're not lazy.
You are not broken.
And you have not failed.
Sometimes we avoid things because starting brings up an uncomfortable feeling.
It might be fear.
You might be afraid of getting it wrong.
It might be perfectionism.
You might feel that if you can't do something perfectly,
There's no point starting.
It might be overwhelm.
The task may feel so big that you don't even know where to begin.
Or maybe you simply don't want to do it.
Maybe it's boring,
Frustrating,
Difficult,
Or unpleasant.
Whatever the reason,
You don't have to solve it all right now.
You just have to start.
You don't need to feel motivated first.
You don't need to feel confident.
You don't need to know exactly how everything will turn out.
And you certainly don't have to finish the whole thing today.
You only need to take one small step.
So ask yourself.
What is the smallest thing I can do right now?
How do I finish this?
Just.
.
.
What can I do first?
Open the document.
Write the first sentence.
Put the first dish in the sink.
Make the first phone call.
Put your shoes on.
Read the first page.
Work for five minutes.
Whatever it is,
Make it small enough that you can't talk yourself out of it.
And when that little voice says,
I'll do it later,
You can answer.
Maybe,
But I'll do five minutes now.
You don't have to wait for the perfect mood.
You don't have to wait for tomorrow.
You don't have to become a completely different person.
You can be tired.
You can be nervous.
You can be bored.
You can be unsure.
And you can still begin.
Remember.
The task usually doesn't become easier because you avoid it.
But it often becomes easier once you've started.
One minute becomes five.
Five minutes becomes 15.
One small step becomes another.
And suddenly you're moving.
So take another breath.
Feel your feet on the ground.
Put down the phone.
Close the distractions.
And take the very first tiny step.
Not tomorrow.
Not when you feel ready.
You just have to begin.
