When Triggers Arise

This is a helpful meditative poem for those moments of feeling "triggered". It certainly happens to us all. The general protective habit is to externalize, to blame, shame, dream up revenge, or to get small and shrink away. This meditative contemplation is to serve as an anchor to revisit again and again, helping you to remember how to get back to gratitude when the moment gets contracted.

I'm right here, Breathing, Breathing in to this collective burden, Exploring it from the inside out. My deepest shadow illuminated, Shatter the disillusion. I bow in gratitude, Breathing. I bow in gratitude, Softening. I bow in gratitude. I've asked to be illuminated, So how can I not be grateful? You've showed up through this triggering situation to illuminate my wound so that I may heal. I bow to the faces who trigger me. Thank you for helping me to heal. I wish to heal. No band-aids here, Really healing now. To breathe in to this pain, To offer love to this pain in my body, In my mind, To offer space, To offer self-compassion. Tripling out from truth, Healing truth, Healing betrayal, Healing disconnection, Healing greed, Healing disgust, Resentment, Revenge, Offering space, Offering breath now, Offering my life, This life, This moment right now. Here I am. Here I am. Here I am, Breathing space, Offering all that I can offer my life right now. My presence to this pain, To this wound, To heal in myself and to heal within the collective. May we all be freed from this suffering. May we remember. May we bow in gratitude to one another for illuminating where we're still disconnected and suffering and stuck, Offering this moment, Breathing space into the body, Bowing in gratitude for the mystery of life. Thank you, Life. I wish to remember wholeness.

I've been dealing with a lot of stress and triggers this past week, and even though I was feeling calm when I woke up, this meditation brought so much emotion up that I found myself sobbing. Thank you for helping me get it out and heal a little bit more. That was a good 5-min. "therapy" session.
