This guided practice explores the quality of equanimity — the capacity to meet experience with balance, steadiness and care. Using the image of a “cool head and warm heart,” the practice invites us to remain present with both pleasant and unpleasant experiences without grasping, resisting, or becoming overwhelmed. Through awareness of breath, body, changing sensations, and emotional tone, we practise noticing what arises and passes, allowing experience to be met with curiosity and kindness. The practice includes a grounding image of a deeply rooted tree, steady as different kinds of weather move through. In the same way, we explore how thoughts, feelings, sensations and moods can be allowed to come and go, while we remain connected to awareness, perspective and care. This is not about becoming detached or emotionally flat, but about cultivating a wise and compassionate balance — learning to respond rather than react, and carrying a cool head and warm heart into the rest of the day.
