Life isn't meant to be one thing.
We often chase happiness,
Calm,
Success,
And certainty,
All while trying to avoid struggles and sadness and discomfort and changes of life.
But yin and yang reminds us that both sides belong.
And what is yin and yang?
Well,
Yin and yang isn't about good versus bad.
It's about balance,
Rest and activity,
Light and dark,
Strength and softness,
Action and stillness.
One gives meaning to the other.
Without night,
We wouldn't appreciate the day.
Without effort,
Rest wouldn't feel so nourishing.
And when life feels busy,
Maybe it's asking for a little more yin,
Slowing down breathing and being present.
When life feels flat or you're lacking motivation,
Maybe it's asking you for a little more young,
Taking a walk,
Making a phone call,
Starting that project you've been putting off.
The goal isn't to live in permanent calm or constant productivity.
The goal is learning to notice which energy you need a little more of today.
And I've learned over the years that whenever I push too hard for too long,
My body eventually reminds me to slow down.
And if I stay still for too long,
I start to begin to crave movement again.
And nature works this way.
The tides come in and out.
The seasons change.
Trees grow.
They lose their leaves and grow again.
We're all part of that same rhythm.
So today,
Ask yourself one simple question.
What do I need more of right now?
Is it more doing or being,
More movement or more rest?
Is it more effort or more compassion?
Balance isn't something we find once,
It's something that we gently return to day after day.
Sometimes the most mindful thing that we can do is simply notice which side of life is calling us today.
