Love does not own. The actual quote here is, Love possesses not, Nor would it be possessed, By Kahlil Gibran in The Prophet. So my interpretation of this is that conscious love is not ownership. It does not grip another person and call that devotion. It does not try to hold the other heart so tightly that there is no room left for growth, Freedom or choice. That is fear. To love consciously is to remember that the one you love is not an object to possess, Manage or control. They are a living soul with their own inner world, Their own timing. Their own needs and their own right to choose what is true for them. Conscious love can be deep, Loyal and devoted. And still not be a cage. It allows both people to remain whole. It says, I love you. I choose you. And I honour that you are still your own separate being. Let this be a reminder today. Love is not possession. Love is machine. Choosing. And allowing. Two whole people. Sharing love. Not owning each other.
