Find a comfortable seat.
Just for a moment,
Assess your natural position.
Is this the most comfortable?
What is your body telling you?
Let your big leg muscles relax.
Adjust your pelvis so that your whole body feels supported.
This is your base,
Created for you to perform all the necessary functions of being human.
What a wonderful creation.
Align your heart over your pelvis.
Feel your spine straighten and relax,
Supporting your chest and organs.
Feel your lungs and let your chest expand.
Rest your thoughts on all the pieces of your torso working in harmony.
Your lungs and heart bringing oxygen to the rest of your body.
Your stomach and intestines turning your food into energy.
Your muscles holding everything in place.
What a wonder your body is.
With your next inhale,
Align your head over your heart.
Feel your neck settle into its primary job,
Holding your head up high.
Let the muscles of your face,
Mouth,
And tongue relax.
They allow you to communicate with and without words,
Expressing yourself and bonding you to others.
Think of how your solid skull protects your brain.
Your large,
Beautiful brain that houses your thoughts and emotions and memories,
Learning something new every second.
Your brain is utterly unique to you.
What a marvelous creation you are.
If any of these pieces of your body are not whole,
If you cannot appreciate a functioning intestine or an expressive face,
Thank you for being here.
How you carry this difference is a wonder.
Finding new and creative ways to function and live fully.
Thank you for saying,
I am here,
And I am incredible too.
In whatever ways your body functions,
It allows you to experience and interact with the universe.
You have the ability to reflect on that interaction and experience.
That is something unique and important.
Take a few more deep breaths to truly settle into your body.
Allow your breathing to be natural and easy.
If you would prefer to lay down for the visualization,
Do so now.
If they are not already closed,
Close your eyes.
Imagine you are walking along a path.
You are alone in a comfortable,
Familiar area.
The sun is out,
And you are enjoying your solitude.
There is green foliage all around,
Your path is clear,
And you are confident in your steps.
It is unclear where you are going,
But each step feels familiar,
And you know you are headed someplace important.
You use a moment to take in your surroundings.
The path seems well-worn,
One that many people have walked before.
It makes for easy traveling.
Everything is so very alive here.
It feels like the trees have things they want to tell you,
Or at least say to each other.
You can sense the grass straining toward the sun,
Drinking in the rays.
You feel the exhale of oxygen as a gift to you.
You inhale and exhale,
Thankful for the pause on your journey.
You continue moving forward.
You notice that the greenery is becoming thicker,
And giving a sense of even more life and awareness.
Though more shaded now,
You still feel safe and purposeful on this path.
You are headed in the right direction.
Your surroundings grow more wild,
And yet more careful with each step forward.
They know where you are going,
And they are glad that you are here.
This feeling grows inside you too,
That there is more than awareness of each other's presence.
There is kinship.
You are related to each other,
Tied together in sacred relationship.
You smile at your cousins as you continue moving forward.
The fresh air,
The greenery,
The sunshine,
And the smooth path makes your journey pleasant.
You can let your mind drift as you breathe and move forward.
Something catches your eye,
A flower on the side of the path.
You stop to admire its beauty,
Each petal perfectly shaped and shaded.
You bend down to smell its fragrance,
Something light that reminds you of the joy of childhood.
As you rise back up,
You notice a gap in the trees.
You would have missed it if not for the flower.
You lean over to get a better look,
And a feeling of home calls to you.
You notice a track,
Barely more than a deer path,
Leading into the woods.
You are nervous,
But something about the path compels you forward.
That feeling of home grows stronger with each step,
Though the foliage is dense,
And sometimes it is hard to tell what is path and what is just gaps in underbrush.
Your anticipation builds.
You are excited,
And nervous,
And strangely comfortable,
All at the same time.
You notice the trees start to thin,
And you reach a small clearing.
A house stands at its center,
Perfectly suited to its surroundings.
The feeling of homecoming was leading you here.
This home fits seamlessly with the forest.
The house almost welcomes you in on its own,
Evoking both freedom and coziness.
The sight makes you relax and move toward it.
As you move closer,
You notice someone working in the flowers and grasses near the house.
Bent over,
You cannot make out much of their clothes or what they look like.
You clear your throat to announce your presence,
Hoping this person will welcome you to their home.
The person straightens up,
And you can see them in well-worn working clothes,
Stained with clay,
Dirt,
And grass.
Wispy hairs have escaped their hat,
And their weather-worn face smiles at you.
They call you by name,
And say welcome.
You come up to them,
A bit at a loss as they know your name,
But you do not know theirs.
They smile a knowing and welcoming smile,
And you relax.
They point towards the house,
Inviting you inside.
Their face contains the joy and warmth of a mother holding their child,
Or a father pushing their kid on a swing.
You follow your host into the house,
Eager to see what is inside.
You are immediately struck by the simplicity of the room.
It is comfortable,
And everything is in its place.
Everything is new,
But it is all so well cared for that you can't imagine needing anything else.
You catch a glimpse of a kitchen,
With herbs hanging from the ceiling,
And something smelling delicious in the oven.
Off to the side,
You can see a workroom with a pottery wheel and different kinds of clay lining the walls.
Your host points to a chair for you to sit in.
You sit down,
Realizing that no chair has ever really held you like this.
It seems to perfectly mold to your body,
But support you in all the ways you have ever needed.
There is a pitcher of iced tea sitting in front of you,
As if a guest was expected.
Your host pours you a glass.
It is cold and sweet,
Refreshing and delicious.
You have never felt more comfortable and at home in a stranger's house.
The host holds your gaze,
And you realize this person is not a stranger.
They know you.
This is the one who formed you out of clay and breathed life into your nostrils.
You find yourself becoming nervous again until they reach out and take your hand.
You barely notice the earth under their fingernails as you look into their eyes again.
Here is your true creator,
And this is your true home.
You are known,
And you are loved.
Now you share what is on your heart.
Perhaps you speak out loud,
Or images just come to mind.
Or you simply sit in silence,
Breathing together.
Whatever form of communication you feel called to,
You know they understand.
This time is now yours for sharing and listening.
My voice will guide you back after five minutes of silence.
You both take a deep breath.
This time together has been precious.
You look into your creator's eyes,
And they crinkle with a smile.
The feeling of unconditional love washes over you.
You know you are welcome back here anytime you want.
More than welcome,
You are desired.
You take another deep breath and turn toward the door.
You look around again at the pottery room,
The kitchen,
And the cozy sitting room as you exit the house.
You are greeted again by the wild and cared for garden,
And enjoy the scents of flowers and herbs as you walk through.
It looks the same,
But feels different,
Because you are different.
The conversation,
The exchange,
Has opened something new inside of you.
You have reached the edge of the clearing and take a look back.
This is a home you can return to anytime.
You step back on the trail that leads back to the wider road.
You remember walking this narrow path and feeling anxious about losing your way.
Now on your return journey,
You are confident that each step is true.
You are able to enjoy the closeness to nature you feel on this track.
Your cousins are happy for you and your journey,
Too.
Soon you catch a glimpse of the flower that initially attracted you to this path.
Its beauty once again is surprising and intense.
You give it a brief touch,
Like you are visiting an old friend.
The path you were on stretches out for you to rejoin.
You begin to walk back the way you came,
Breathing deeply the quiet and majesty of the forest.
You are struck by the thought of the hands that formed you,
Making the trees and the flowers and the sun.
You smile once again at your cousins,
Who wave in the wind in return.
It makes your journey even more pleasant.
You notice the trees and the foliage starting to thin as the sunshine gets brighter.
You go further and recognize this place as a familiar and favorite spot for you.
You enjoy the path,
The sun,
The sensation of moving at your own pace.
You know it is time to come back to your body in this room.
Before you go,
You remember the sensation of your creator touching your hand.
You carry that memory with you as you become aware of the space you are in physically.
You notice the sounds and smells of your room.
You take a deep breath and wiggle your toes.
You may stay here as long as you like,
Savoring the memory and choosing what you would like to take with you back to the waking world.
When you are ready,
Open your eyes.
When you are ready,
Stretch and return.
