Take a relaxing break by imagining your tummy as a balloon! This exercise is perfect for managing big emotions and calming down quickly. This breathing exercise will teach you how to take deep breaths.

Let's relax by taking balloon breaths.

Lie down if it is comfortable for you.

If you have a favourite stuffed animal,

Put it on your tummy.

Pretend your tummy is a balloon.

Take a big breath in through your nose.

As you breathe in,

Feel your tummy getting bigger,

Expanding like when you blow up a balloon.

Watch your stuffed animal rise on your tummy.

Hold that in-breath for just a second.

Then let the air out slowly through your mouth.

Watch your tummy and your stuffed animal slowly go down.

Very good.

Breathe in again through your mouth.

Make your balloon tummy rise.

Lift your stuffed animal into the air.

Then slowly blow the air out again.

See how your balloon tummy is flat again.

Breathe in slowly one more time.

Expand your belly like a balloon.

Up goes your stuffed animal.

Hold for a minute.

Then exhale slowly.

On goes your stuffed animal.

You can take balloon breaths whenever you need to relax.

Or to help you fall asleep at night.
