She,
As in me,
Or who I'm known to be,
Has outgrown the program,
This played-out performance of pretend.
She is done being puppeted in this dystopian dance.
No more time of mine for acting.
No more space left to fit in.
And yes,
In truth,
I never did conform right well at all.
I tried my darndest to dishonor my inner voice's call.
In futile attempts to persuade the judging eyes of my small size,
Swapped wayward longing for belonging,
I professed my demise with pride.
As shadows writhe,
Conditioned to be feared,
Hated,
Shamed,
I outstretched a loving palm to the parts of me untamed.
She cracked wide open in surrender,
Unabashed,
Unafraid.
As aliveness grew,
The fear did too,
But courage rose to meet it.
A sacred reclamation,
Allowing pain to show the way.
No longer in needless suffering,
But hopeful trust in the way.
Allowing the wilting is a terrible thrill.
Unwinding the will to spill lies as my story,
The falsehooded cloak unravels itself at my feet.
Laying her down with the leaves to rest,
Grieving my own death,
My own dying,
Release the trying,
The sacred untying,
Molt me further yet,
Raw,
Burned,
And free.
The old me returns,
The little one rebirthed,
Gasps awake for air,
Breathes fully,
Finally,
Yet again,
Bold,
Brave,
Scared.
