Emerging from the Saharawi Refugee camp in Western Sahara, Sumaya embodies a journey of resilience and growth. Born in adversity, her spirit thrived on curiosity and the pursuit of knowledge. Hailing from a camp established due to the historical struggle of her people after Spain's relinquishment of Western Sahara to Morocco in 1975, her existence stands testament to endurance. Within the camp's confines, Sumaya's family and she subsisted on monthly aid, their lives intertwined with the rhythm of survival. Her upbringing, amidst scarcity, was brightened by the love of her family and the guiding presence of her mother. Separated from her family for extended periods from the age of 12 due to boarding school commitments, Sumaya learned vital lessons in self-care and empathy.
