Welcome to this candlelight meditation.
Make sure you're laying down comfortably for this meditation.
Grab a blanket to keep you warm and cozy and a pillow to support your head.
Take a few deep breaths and really sink into the surface beneath you,
Inviting your body to soften and your mind to relax.
Now close your eyes.
Visualise yourself lying in a slightly darkened room.
You're feeling calm and safe here.
Your body is sinking into the floor and your muscles are relaxed.
Your breath is long and deep.
The room is empty,
Apart from a candle that is lit in the corner.
You can see the lovely patterns that the flame of the candle is creating,
Dancing on the walls and ceiling above you,
In your mind's eye.
You spend some time observing the pretty designs being created by your candle.
You might decide that you want to look at this candle directly,
So in your mind you can turn your head to the side so that you can see your candle.
Whereabouts is your candle?
Is it to your left or right?
What colour is the candle?
How big or small is your candle?
Is it a big pillar candle or indeed a little tea light?
Does your candle have a scent?
Decide what your candle is like.
Looking at the flame of the candle,
You become gently mesmerised as it dances about like a ballerina,
Elegant yet powerful.
Feel yourself relaxing as you watch the beautiful patterns made by the candle.
Imagine the candle gently melting away,
Any stresses and tension that you might be holding onto into your physical body.
As your candle burns,
Feel the tension subsiding and notice the relaxation flowing freely through your entire body.
Notice how the wax on your candle is becoming softer,
Just like your body is becoming softer with each breath that you take.
Notice the soft flame at the top of your candle and see how it flickers slightly in response to your breath.
Watch how your flame responds each time you breathe in and out.
Guiding your attention back to your candle,
Notice the wax softening,
Melting,
Turning to liquid,
Warm and flowing,
Completely free from any tension.
See the wax of the candle melting,
Melting the way your tension is melting away.
As the melted wax builds up,
See it overflowing,
Pouring down the sides of the candle,
Drop by drop.
Feels like any stresses that you've been holding onto are dripping away with each drop of wax from the candle.
The soft flame of relaxation is warming you from the inside,
Melting away all your stresses and worries.
Keep watching the wax melting,
Feeling the same effects of the melting wax on the tension in your body,
Melting,
Relaxing.
Continue to observe the burning candle,
Enjoying this complete relaxation that you're experiencing right now.
When you are ready to finish your relaxation session,
Take a deep breath in,
And as you breathe out through your mouth,
Blow out your candle.
Gently bring your awareness to the place that you're in,
The time,
The space.
Slowly begin to stretch your muscles.
Then open your eyes and enjoy that sensation of calm and peace that remains with you,
That you're able to carry with you throughout your day.
