Sound Bath Sessions 321: Kavitha Rajan
Last session of the first day was with Kavitha Rajan at the Green Loft where she usually holds her sessions. She told me that Mingwei was a yoga teacher there and that I had just missed her. What a coincidence! Kavitha played one long 43-minute track. Her style is powerful, dynamic, always moving. She switches between mallets and baton to balance low, muted tones of the larger bowls with high, clear ones from the smaller ones. There is a special bowl that has a piercing harmonic when struck. Her jangly tongue drum has a unique nostalgic sound that is almost childlike against the more refined metal bowls. Her quick pace creates this eternal pulsing through the entire track of bowls, like a heartbeat, never resting, always flowing. A great track to listen to while journaling.
