Sound Bath Sessions 281: Kendra Ong, Kinaki Hoo
After a leisurely morning I packed up and Grabbed it to Kendra's home in Klang about a 45 minute drive from my hotel. Kendra specializes in the native flute and started learning it in 2019. She invited a friend to play with her, Kinaki, who is a flautist for the community orchestra. Kinaki was interested in native flutes because it was different from the orchestra flute she played. Kinaki was perfect addition to the sessions adding more sounds and imagination to the songs. We recorded a continuous session for about 40 minutes as they improvised together. Both Kendra and Kinaki showed off their skills playing off each other's phrases. Their duet is a wonderful conversation and their trust in each other can be felt as they create a warm, inclusive atmosphere of sound. When editing the final track, I felt that the performance would be best experienced in several 'Acts'. There are 7 Acts in all, each with their own tone, character, and mood.
