Sound Bath Sessions 251: Rianna Tsai
My last recording in Taiwan was with Rianna. We recorded in here studio near the Taoyuan High Speed Rail Station. Missy and Morrison played sessions with her and told me that she is a great practitioner. We met at her studio at around 7 am, which meant I needed to wake up at 5:30 am to get the first bus and train to get to her from Taipei. It was a cool bus ride to the station from my hotel, seeing the sun rise over the empty streets of Taipei. Rianna wanted to play just one long 40-minute session for the recording. She had many bowls, gongs, and other instruments in her studio. Rianna begins by introducing her bowls, then double-taps the gong that swallows you in its deep tones, where you are held for the entire session. Rianna had a soft, quiet touch that matched the feeling of a sleepy early morning. The construction site across from the space had started work during the recording.
