Sound Bath Sessions 250: Hyunju Kim
My first morning in Seoul, I was greeted by a beautiful morning, so I left with a light jacket only to find out that later in the day, the temperature dropped to the low teens (Celcius). By lunch, I was almost freezing. My schedule was so tight, I just had to bear it for the day. What I didn't know was that I would record some of the most unforgettable sessions of my trip. My first recording in Seoul was with Hyunju Kim in her basement studio near the Yeogsam Station. Hyunju's style is so bold and refreshing. From the first notes, you know this is not going to be your usual session. They will push your limits and leave you in awe. In this session, Hyunju starts playing single bowls to relax you. Then she plays two bowls that open the ears with interesting tone pairings. The tones she plays are bold, and her hand is strong. There is so much drama in every strike. Wonderful composition.
