Sound Bath Sessions 234: Yu-Hsuan Chen
I recorded YU-Hsuan Chen in a general-purpose room on the top floor of her apartment block near Xingfu station. The surroundings were very active with a lot of city sounds that echoed in the reflective room. Irene's bowls have a very interesting tone to them. Some of them have pure tones, and some are inherently dissonant between harmonics, resulting in amazing modulations just from one strike. And when paired with other bowls can start to change the shape of sound even more. I think it adds great interest to an otherwise flat-sounding session. I felt this track was interesting because it sounded like Irene's playing complemented the surrounding city sounds. It starts off pretty noisy and chaotic with truck sounds and construction, and ends very calm when there is just the din of the city.
