Sound Bath Sessions 199: Siyeon Ham
Siyeon was my last recording in Korea. She met me at Wonjong Station at around 9 pm, and we recorded at her apartment in a quiet neighborhood nearby. The room was small, so the sound is very direct and intimate. Siyeon played large quartz bowls and an ocean drum for her sessions. It was interesting listening to these recordings again in the edit. There was a progression from the first to the last recording. The first session was active and bold, the second session was melodic and slow, and the third session's ocean drum was just a beautiful bed of calming white noise. It was like the journey of a person during a sound bath, starting with a complicated, busy mind, then slowly calming down until you reach a simple mind state and feeling. The session was more relaxed with softer strikes and slower movement. The natural sounds of the shaker help to soften the hard sounds of the bowls.
