Andre started as a DJ and DJ event organizer in France before moving to Japan and finally settling in Kyoto. He multi-instrumentalist and composer, and occasionally plays with some local bands. He has an interesting collection of bowls, some of which are locally made in Kyoto which creates this great connection with his sounds to the place. His style of playing is purely improvised sound art. Slow and deep tones are put next to searing metal-on-metal screams. Who knew chaos could be this enjoyable? The gallery we recorded in was small and very intimate, tucked at the end of a narrow alley. This track had a wonderful, slow beginning with sparse tones to introduce the characters in this performance. The track becomes more active when he uses the bow and other metal and wood mallets to play the bowls, creating stark, ripping tones to show the other side of metal bowls. The session was a roller coaster of loud and quiet, soft and hard sounds.
