Sound Bath Sessions 189: Sunmin Lee
I ventured out to Chowol Station before sunrise to meet Sunmin at her studio, Yoga Cactus. It was a beautiful cloudless sunny day. The sunrise washed the mountains in the distance with light and the crisp air stiffened my nose with every breath. I like the feeling of the Chowol area, it was calm and quiet, the perfect place for my next recording. The space was perfect to contain the sounds of her bowls. The passing traffic also can faintly be heard to one side. She arrived at the space and diffused essential oils. If I remember correctly, it was my favorite, a pine tree scent. Although each recording is around 10 minutes, they demand your attention and make the time pass quickly. There is a lot in her sessions. I love how she plays over the long sustain of her bowls. Almost as if the bowls play itself. As if alive, forever pulsing.
