Sound Bath Sessions 151: Lily Lau & Felis Hui

Michelle Chow was part of the first batch of practitioners I recorded in 2023. She moved into a new space in Sheung Wan and recently and mentioned that she had a few friends that focused on shamanic drumming that would be interested in participating with the project. Lily and Felis started learning shamanic drumming since 2017 and perform as a duo often. This recording’s theme was a journey into an ancient forest. The sat facing each other and put on blindfolds, focusing their senses and connect with their instruments and with each other. I had never seen this type of extreme immersion from a practitioner before. They were invisible, present only in sound. It was so cool to see them perform. Their drumming was active and intense, the quick improvised tempos numbed my ears. They both began chanting, sometimes taking turns, sometimes together.
