I recorded Linda at Maddy’s space Concentric Circles of Healing and used some of the instruments there as well. Linda’s interest in sound healing did not come from a yoga background but her own musical background. For the second recording, I mounted the microphone on a stand in a ‘sitting up’ point of view. Linda played two gongs: the large symphonic gong was in front of the mic, and small gong was placed behind the mic. The deep waves came in slowly, lulling you to sleep on a warm bed of sound. Switching to the smaller gong, she conjures up new sounds with a friction mallet before striking it creating splashes and crashes. She lets the swaying gong shift the stereo image back and forth. As she returns once again to the large gong, you quickly notice that the smaller gong does not have the same amount of sustain as she ekes a rainbow of colors from a single strike.
