I'd like you to close your eyes.
Imagine that tomorrow you go to the doctor and they tell you that you have 24 hours left to live.
What are some of the biggest fears that come up?
What are some of your biggest regrets?
Who will you not have had the chance to become?
What are some of the things you're most thankful for?
What are some of your favorite memories that will define your entire life?
What will you choose to measure your life by?
This hypothetical reality tends to awaken a lot of the things we might have buried beneath,
Be them obstacles and fears or dreams we have,
Opportunities there for the taking,
Things we secretly know are possible,
But that might scare us too much.
So instead of playing the risk,
We take the safe route and we pretend that they're unrealistic,
But they're not.
They are only impossible if we refuse to acknowledge them,
If we refuse to unbury them,
If we refuse to give them our energy,
To feed them and bring them to life,
To go after them,
To risk the cards and to find out for ourselves if they are possible or not.
Part of this is as a result of our stories.
The stories about who we are,
What we're capable of and who we can become.
The stories of what the world is like,
What our place in it is,
What success looks like,
What failure means.
These are the stories that keep us from writing the story for ourselves that we actually want to live,
But might be too afraid to admit to ourselves.
I'd like to invite you to re-imagine your future,
To rewrite the story of your future,
And to redefine what is possible for you.
I'd like you to imagine a moment five years from now,
One of the happiest,
Most content,
Moments you can possibly imagine.
If everything you could have possibly dreamed of has come true,
If you have achieved,
Surpassed all of the hopes that you had for yourself,
What would that look like?
What would that feel like?
Imagine it now.
Where are you?
What's the weather like?
Who are you with?
What is it you're doing that brings you that deep,
Genuine feeling of contentment?
What have the past few years been like?
And what do you hope for the coming years?
Think about and embody how you are feeling in that moment.
Slowly open your eyes and write down everything in detail,
Enhancing,
Intensifying each detail and each accomplishment.
Write it in the present tense and write it so positively that it makes you uncomfortable.
