The lights in your room should be off.
Maybe a small night light is glowing.
Take a nice,
Slow,
Deep breath to prepare us for the journey ahead.
There's no place to be and there's nothing we need to do.
All we need is to be willing to let go of our thoughts.
So if you have a worry,
Well,
You'll have to leave it now.
Say goodbye.
You can visit it later.
If you have a funny thought in your head,
Or an idea that has your attention,
Please set it down now.
Let it go.
It will be here tomorrow,
So get comfortable underneath your blankets.
Gently close your eyes.
Take a deep breath and as you do,
Feel your belly rise with the in-breath and fall with the out-breath.
Do this again.
Breathe in long and slow and let your belly rise.
Breathe out longer and slower and let your belly fall.
Let's do this one more time.
Breathe in slowly.
Now breathe out slower.
You can sense that your mind starts quieting down.
Your body is becoming calm.
Notice on your feet relaxing as you breathe slowly in and out,
In and out.
Imagine now that your bed is beginning to gently rise.
Pay attention to the feeling of the bed that you are lying on.
Feel the weight of your bones and muscles push into that bed.
Now imagine.
Imagine your bed is rising.
Rising,
Rising.
Feel the bed gently float up.
With your eyes closed,
Imagine that there is no ceiling on your room and your bed slowly and quietly drifts up,
Past the roof line,
Up over the trees and the houses below.
Even though you're not sure where you're going,
You feel safe and secure and you know that this will be a grand adventure full of wonderful things.
The bed continues to rise a bit faster now and the houses and trees look smaller and smaller as you rise higher and higher into the night sky.
You feel so small floating on your bed with the night sky above you and below you,
But you also feel a part of something so big and wonderful.
You feel taken care of and safe,
Like the universe is watching over you.
In the dark sky,
You can barely see great wispy clouds rush past your bed as you lie and enjoy the weightless feeling of drifting up,
Up,
Up.
Your bedroom is now far below,
So you say goodbye.
You will only be gone a short time,
But you know there is much to see.
Enormous white birds circle above you now and you can feel the air from their wings on your face as they flap their graceful wings.
And now you sense that your bed is drifting back down,
Down.
Take a deep breath and relax.
Feel the bed underneath you.
Feel the weightlessness of drifting down through the sky.
Soon you know you are getting closer to the ground,
But you know you have traveled somewhere different.
The cool air of a forest touches your skin.
Trees are in sight and you drift peacefully down,
Down,
Down.
Your bed is so comfortable as the dark trees of a forest begin to rise above.
Huge ancient old growth trees show themselves now.
In the evening sky,
You can see their outline rise above you as you float closer to the ground.
The lovely cool forest is now all around you.
You can see that it is lit by glow worms hanging from the branches,
Giving the forest a magical,
Mysterious light.
As you drift down,
The glow worms flash their soft lights at you.
Their lights are a soft orange and yellow and remind you of a vast city of peaceful beings living together.
You know that they have been here for thousands of years,
Living and lighting the forest for visitors like you.
You are almost on the floor of the forest.
Take a deep breath and feel the welcoming forest all around you.
Large soft ferns touch your bed as you float down.
You touch the soft green ferns with your hand and you can feel the tiny spores like little seeds under their great big leafy fronds.
The ferns rustle quietly against your bed and gently tickle your skin as you delicately land on the soft ground.
You sit up,
You put your bare feet on the cool,
Moist ground.
Take a deep breath now.
In,
Let your belly rise.
Look out and your belly falls.
You look around and see that you are in a forest of large fir trees.
They are swaying just a little.
The breeze is warm and feels good against your body.
What you can still see of the night sky far above you is a deep dark blue.
You can still see a few twinkling stars through the thick forest canopy.
The smell of thick green plants and pungent flowers is strong and wonderful.
An owl circles right in front of you.
Her wings are soft and barely make a sound.
She is so close that you can almost reach out and touch her.
She looks your way with each circle.
It seems that you have known her for your whole life.
It seems that you should follow her.
Take a step forward on a thin path of fur needles.
The forest feels kind and you are not scared at all.
With your first step,
You feel the fur needles press into your feet and they are cool and they are soft.
Walk forward.
Let the soft green needles massage your feet.
The warm breeze becomes a bit stronger and your hair and clothes are moving in the soft wind.
The warmth feels so good,
So safe,
So relaxing.
Relax your whole body.
Let the warm breeze carry you.
Let the warm breeze carefully lift you up.
You realize that the wind is picking your body up off the ground and you don't feel scared at all.
With a slight smile on your face,
You let the warm wind pick you up and carry you slowly into the air.
You drift under the canopy of trees,
Swaying and moving with the breeze,
Fully relaxed and you don't have to do anything at all.
You circle and drift higher into the canopy and you see the owl circling with you.
You're both circling together,
Up,
Up,
Up,
Higher into the trees.
Other birds slowly and peacefully glide by,
Close enough and slow enough that you can touch their silky feathers as they pass.
The owl flies higher in the treetops and you follow her up.
That warm wind continues to lift you higher and higher and you feel held by the wind.
You feel at peace in the dark forest lit by the glowworms.
Your body feels weightless.
The owl perches on a branch that is covered with soft moss in a huge thousand-year-old fir tree.
You drift over to the owl and sit upon the moss.
The cool air is settling down from the sky.
You lie down on a bed of moss and look up past the branches.
You are in the highest and oldest tree in the forest.
You can stretch out in the bed of moss.
Look up through the branches and see the bright stars.
They glimmer and they shine so perfectly.
See a shooting star zip through the sky leaving a bright streak just for a second.
You reach your hand out and you can feel the light that has been traveling through the universe for billions of years.
It feels slightly warm and it tingles the palms of your hands.
You can see the light from each star as it slips down into the canopy of the trees.
As the rays of soft light touch the branches,
You can hear notes like music.
The sound is joyous and deeply relaxing.
Friendly owl flaps its wings and flies down,
Down,
Down to the forest floor.
You peek over the edge of the moss and decide to follow.
Take a deep breath and relax as the soft warm wind picks you up from your moss bed.
Then you circle back down through the forest,
Down between the giant branches of the ancient trees,
Back to the forest floor.
The forest has grown a little brighter now or maybe your eyes have adjusted to the dark.
Thin rays of light find their way down to the ground.
The forest floor is slightly cool to the touch.
The smell of wet plants is tempting and inviting.
You feel the desire to go deeper into the forest.
It's calling you onward.
You know you don't need to worry at all.
There are no worries here.
With each step on the firm ground,
You know you are entering a very special place that is very welcoming and full of wisdom.
You see up ahead of you smooth stones that stick up from a very shallow creek that crosses the forest path.
You walk up to the creek and bend down to look at the dinner plate sized stones.
You see that on each stone live different small forest animals,
Each and every one fast asleep.
On one stone,
A group of dark green frogs are gathered in a circle.
You can see their small bodies move as they breathe in and out as they sleep.
On another,
There are several squirrels peacefully asleep.
And yet,
On another stone,
There are four bobcats with soft fur lined up all asleep,
Making soft breathing sounds as the babbling creek flows past them.
The sleeping animals make you realize how tired you are,
And in fact,
There is one last stone right in the middle of the others,
But much larger than the others that has no animal on it.
You wade into the cool water that slightly tickles your toes and climb upon the smooth black stone,
Which has been warmed by the sun trickling through the forest all day.
You close your eyes,
Relax your legs and arms,
And the water gently touches them.
You can hear the animals around you.
Their sounds of sleep are so relaxing.
The bobcats quietly sleep.
The squirrels breathe deeply,
And the frog makes gentle croaking sounds.
You know you are very much like them,
A very tired animal too.
With your eyes closed,
You hear that there are more sounds to the forest than you had realized.
As your mind becomes calm and clear,
You now can hear the trees quietly talking to each other,
Not using words that you know,
But you understand some of what they say.
Most of what you understand are simple hellos from one tree to another.
Sounds are deep and low,
And you want to say something to them.
So you make a low,
Soft sound,
A deep hello when tree answers back.
A few trees hear you and drop some fine,
Firm noodles from their branches that float down and gently drop upon your body.
More and more noodles drop until much of your body is blanketed by a fine layer of soft,
Light green fur noodles.
They smell so bright and clean.
You feel totally safe in a home in this forest,
Covered with a blanket of soft green,
And protected by these enormous trees.
You drift off to sleep,
But in your sleep,
You can still hear the sounds of the creek and the sleeping sounds of the animals around you.
The time has come for you to rise from your stone.
You brush off the soft fur needles when you look up in the sky.
Take a deep breath in and out.
The only thing different now is that a full moon is peeking out from the tops of the tall trees directly above you,
And the forest is aglow with its wonderful light.
The animals that were sleeping have left their stone.
The moon reminds you of how big and wonderful the universe is.
You feel comfortable and safe in its light.
Take a step off the rock,
Through the stream,
Back to your bed that lies upon the trail.
See the glow worms as they drift from the trees in the soft,
Warm wind of the forest.
Relax.
Hear the ancient trees softly speak to each other.
Take a breath in and a long breath out.
Lie back upon your bed and feel how comfortable it is,
How perfectly it fits your body.
Notice how heavy your body feels upon the bed,
How with each breath in and out,
You're getting sleepier and sleepier.
Now a warm wind takes your bed and lifts you up into the sky.
The trees slowly slip out of sight,
And the endless night sky with its stars is everywhere around you.
You drift back up through the wispy soft clouds,
Up,
Up.
You float through the night sky for quite a while,
And then slowly you begin descending back to your home.
You see your own now below you.
And as you descend,
You are getting closer and closer to being asleep.
Now here you are back in your bedroom,
Ready for rest.
It's time for bed.
We have so many more nighttime adventures to go on,
But now is the time to let your body rest.
Your mind is settled.
Your body is fully,
Completely relaxed.
So sleep tight.
