You know,

One of the things that can happen when the heart calls is many of us might experience a feeling of learned helplessness.

So learned helplessness is exactly what it says.

It's basically where as children we learn that our heart's desires were not allowed or that our true energy was not allowed.

And we would have learned it over and over.

So by the time we reach adulthood,

Sometimes our heart calls,

We might get a feeling about a person and we go,

Oh,

It's hopeless.

You know,

There's no point.

Or a feeling about a different career or,

You know,

Anything of our dreams.

So I really want to talk about this because it's just ego.

It's not real.

You know,

And it can be overcome.

There was,

I remember in Psych 101,

There was a story about these dogs who were,

You know,

The bowls of food were put out and every time they went for the food,

They were shocked.

So in the,

You know,

The report of the experiment was,

You know,

The dogs gave up.

But actually the full reading of the experiment was a third of the dogs kept going.

So a third of the dogs never gave up.

They kept trying.

And indeed,

On the final try,

They found that they weren't shocked with the food,

That the problem had gone away.

You know,

Similarly in my teacher in India,

Amma,

Would talk about,

You know,

With elephants that when the elephants were small,

They would tie the elephant to the tree with a thick rope.

And then by the time that the,

You know,

The adult,

The elephant was an adult,

The trainer could just even pretend to tie a rope and the elephant would stay there all night.

So this is the power of learned helplessness.

It freezes us.

It stops us from even considering that we can have our dreams or we can have,

You know,

We can spend our lives with an important person to us or we,

You know,

We can have the career we want.

That we're allowed to be here basically.

So I just want to remind you that it's just ego.

And when you feel that,

You can observe it,

You know,

Give it over to the universe and and just don't believe it.

Because,

You know,

If I believe my very strong learned helplessness,

I wouldn't be able to be speaking to you like this.

And really,

You know,

I think if a population's got too much learned helplessness,

Then,

You know,

Then governments run amok.

So,

You know,

It's important that we keep our feeling that we can have the lives we want and we can have the governments,

The fair governments we need and,

You know,

Fair business practices and that we're defined beings in human form and we're entitled to be here.

Okay,

Thanks for listening.
