Hello,
Awaken Creative.
Here we are.
Here we are!
Tucked in the little corner of my studio.
Works in progress.
Staring back at me in a new perspective.
And together.
On video.
This is my wish come true.
When I began these meditations on Insight Timers so many years ago,
I thought video.
I need video.
And of course,
I've used that in other platforms,
But this one.
This one inside timer.
It just resonates.
It means a lot to come to all of you and.
.
.
Share not just the beauty of the creative hand.
But the inspiration and soul that has to come before it.
The thing I call before the brush.
So here we are,
This first meditation,
This first awake and creative journey together on video.
You'll want to gather a few tools.
It's very simple.
Something to paint on.
And something to paint with.
More specifically for today.
I'm working on newsprint,
24 by 36 I believe is the size,
And using charcoal and graphite.
Simple as that.
I encourage you to do the same thing.
Find a surface that isn't precious to you,
That you're not going to angst over ruining.
Newsprint,
Cardboard.
Packing paper.
Paper towel?
Give it a try.
We're going to take that tool in hand and make some marks.
It's what I like to call the repetition of a mirror.
Because the miracle of your hand,
Holding a tool is creating something from nothing.
So go,
Gather your material,
I'll turn the camera and we'll get started.
I'm still here.
But it's down to my hand.
This is the surface you'll see this work going down onto.
Simple newsprint.
I've put a layer of gesso here just to give myself a little toothiness.
It's a way I like to prepare my surface in order to.
.
.
Invite myself to dive in.
Before we begin,
Assuming you have your tools before you.
Let's take a pause.
Keep your eyes open.
Because we're here to be here.
To see.
To connect our eyes,
Our mind.
To our hand in the creative process.
Take a deep breath.
And I encourage you,
If you're able,
To stand before this blank canvas.
Well,
We're not going to be using the entire body in this exercise.
We are going to want a sense of freedom a sense of grounding that comes from standing firmly on two feet.
Centered heart.
Over hips.
This simple exercise.
Is the pure mark.
Working intuitively is the goal.
And therefore,
Using your non-dominant hand is encouraged.
So with those things in mind,
As you take one final deep breath.
Feel the grounding of your feet.
And the energy of your hands.
Take up that first tool.
In your non-dominant hand if you can.
And let it.
Unbroken.
Unimagined.
And thought.
If you feel your mind,
Your thoughts.
.
.
Your analysis or judgment start to come in.
Let that be enough.
Take it as a sign.
That your intuition has played itself out.
And your intellect wants to step into the room and help make something of this.
We need them both.
As I put down my tool.
I felt that I wanted to continue with these tools.
So I'll smear.
And shade.
And blush this charcoal into this soft surface.
This gritty gestured surface that receives it so nicely.
One more tool for gesturing.
In my dominant hand this time.
The introduction of a different line dimension.
A black but a tonally different black.
Brings more harmony.
Brings more intrigue.
Offers more opportunity.
In further exploration.
As you're ready,
Stop your hand.
Put down your tools.
Now use your eyes.
Miracle.
In its own way.
Truly.
Miracle.
You just created something from nothing.
Just some more.
Use some more.
And explore the possibilities.
In replication of this miracle.
We'll be back next time with color.
