Isn't creation marvelous?
Good morning Awake and Creative.
We're here this week to explore the wonder of nature and creation.
Here we are.
I'm a pre-dawn waker.
Most months,
This even means I'm up before the birds.
But now,
In this summer season,
The wonder and delight of their rise meets me when I open my eyes.
And today,
I heard them and thought,
Marvelous.
I think we all use that word,
Marvelous,
A little flippantly.
But when you dig in,
Marvel,
It's something to wonder at.
It's an extraordinary thing.
So perhaps to call morning bird song marvelous is a bit of extreme,
But I don't think so.
Well,
It's natural.
It's an everyday occurrence.
It's only sometimes that it's captured,
That we humans listen,
Pause,
Take in enough to hear it,
To realize it,
And to let it be marvelous.
You,
Awaken Creative,
Are a creator.
Sometimes feeling like a job,
Sometimes like a chore.
But when you listen,
When you hear it anew,
It is part of that marvelous.
You're not alone.
You aren't a created anomaly to have tough days,
To have moments in your creative process that don't flow or manifest in just the way you'd hoped.
Think of God's seven days of creation,
If you will,
As a metaphor.
Not every day was perfect,
And there was rest built in.
Imagine that.
A pure and shining example right there for us to follow.
A script,
If you will,
To this co-creative journey we're on.
Today,
The bird song.
I heard it anew,
And it was marvelous.
It brought wonder.
It brought delight.
And sitting here telling you all about it,
It brought a smile to my face.
While I can't be so trite as to say just this is enough to make a good day,
To make life worthwhile,
To remind myself that all is well,
But,
Too,
It is.
All of those things.
It doesn't remove the task list or the schedule or the responsibilities,
But somehow,
This today noticing of bird song,
The wonder and sense of marvel renew my ability to remember that I'm part of something bigger.
It removes the gravitas that I place on my shoulders as if only I were carrying this world and offers up an opportunity all day long to remember.
As I put brush to canvas,
Pull weeds from the gardens,
Do the daily duty of dog walking,
Dog walks and food preparing,
I always can come back to it.
The marvelous.
The wonder.
And remember I'm just me,
Part of a whole.
I don't know the length of your today's to-do list or how full your tasks run,
But add another.
Marvel.
