We go out to teach what we want to know something like that and I'm discovering with this green especially I discovered that I'm doing this color theory thing because It's it's a curiosity of my own which of course that makes sense,

But deeper than a curiosity.

It's It's fulfilling something maybe even unconscious about how I feel about color and how I respond to color and how I use colors and What I pushed back on some time ago when somebody called me a colorist.

It's like no I'm not a colorist.

You know what's that?

No,

I'm not And it's like well,

Yeah,

I guess I can embrace that Wholeheartedly the more I learn about the colors from the different perspective than you know the traditional Teaching we get through education.

It's this this Resonance spiritually and energetically and all that that really is intriguing me So,

You know now I can embrace it because I can look at it from a different perspective.

I like that But it's been fun exploring and pulling together information that I wanted to share with y'all to create these color theory talks and Again,

It you know dawns on me once again Oh,

I'm doing this because I want to know You guys just happen to be good enough to become my audience to listen to what I discovered Give me a more of a sense of purpose to creating it Rather than just I'm curious.

I'll figure it out for myself and then not really figuring it out because I have no audience.

Yeah Anyway,

Welcome everybody.

This is before the brush I'm Patricia Baldwin Segerbrooke and I created before the brush as a space we can explore creativity as a space of meditation and contemplation that brings us closer to Our divine nature our best self our better Place Co creating into this world.

So welcome and thank you for being here.

Thank you.

That said let's get going If you do not yet follow,

Please follow that believe it or not helps somehow I don't know how but it helps in terms of my getting my you know,

Financial kickback from insight timer because this is a free platform to all of you and I give myself freely to these presentations It's all donations that get Get money in my pocket for this.

So thank you for anything you can do and the hearts are lovely,

Too I I don't quite know how they impact how insight timer reads And you know endorses me or doesn't or whatever they do I don't know how it works,

But it makes me feel better.

So why not?

Let's use it Thanks,

You guys.

I appreciate it Alright,

But today green let me tell you what I've composed with this beautiful color green Honestly,

I want to stop at the first quote that I that I discovered green the soul is dyed the color of its thoughts I Kind of wanted to sit with that that that's so poetic and it really could turn your imagination mind on and just take it so many places and I intend to play with that a little bit more once I've shared all this green information with you I'm gonna take that that quote and I don't know where it came from.

I apologize Plagiarizing am I no,

It's not mine Yeah,

I want to take that and fool with it in different ways Green Life,

What do we think life alive?

Nature,

Of course Lushness,

I'm in the southeast here and I was in Australia,

You know that subtropical climate.

I know lushness to to an extreme Refreshing green can be refreshing tranquil It can in Insight ideas of wealth all our green money Oh,

Mary Webb another quote green is a fresh emblem of well-founded.

Hope Green is a fresh emblem of well-founded.

Hope That's a little more wordy clunky Then the soul is dyed colors of it.

The soul is dyed the color of its thoughts,

But I liked it as well With this connection to nature green signifies growth not only in nature but in nature Green signifies growth not only physically,

You know looking out my window But spiritually as well Green has a calming effect which derives from its association with nature Which people of course we typically experience as relaxing and reflect refreshing Unless it's humid and 95 degrees It can be argued that green is hardwired in our brain from evolution and I liked this as early humans Knew that green and nature indicated a place where they'd find food and water and perhaps shelter I don't mind thinking green is hardwired that makes it,

You know,

All the more applicable as my favorite color Although some find green a relaxing color others say about green is hardwired Some find green a relaxing color others say it motivates them and that's where of course we can think of the stoplight where the green means go Give you the green light on a project Research also shows that creativity increases when surrounded by greenery and views of green nature I need to put that one to the test.

I have green out my window,

But it's not a very pretty green So if I maybe put plants in front of the window a little more I'll get that effect I also enjoyed this discovery by shade the meaning of green can vary And I found this interesting because then I'm looking at my own work and thinking of all the art I've created over the years And the different applications of green and the shades of green that I've enjoyed and I'm like,

Oh,

That's really intriguing So for instance bright green,

Spring,

Rebirth,

Olive green,

Tranquility,

Earthiness,

Elegance That one I don't quite get in this definition.

I'm more like olive green is the army isn't it?

Dark green,

Fertility,

Greed,

Money,

And drive Yellowish green suggests illness,

Envy,

And decay Aqua,

Cleanliness,

Freshness,

Water And then pale green gives us a resonance of peace Now think about how green is used psychologically in everyday life For instance,

Packaging on sustainable made products often features green We call it green,

Whatever Some products,

I think of my comet,

Comet scouring powder is in a green container Often it's used along with blue to convey freshness and purity in those cleaning products And then of course we've got the military gear that is green,

That olive,

Like I said,

Camouflage,

And all their equipment It's like a shade in and of itself,

Military green,

Army green Environmental concerns are frequently referred to as green So there's the green energy,

The green initiative,

The green party,

Green peace So all those are psychological associations to this color,

Which is super intriguing We don't think of these things in our everyday use,

They become so commonplace that we don't realize the psychological implications behind them It's super interesting Green is also related in nature to the cycle of death and rebirth Like we said,

That light green or bright green is the green sprouts of life And then we have that yellow green puce green of decomposition So it's positioned as it is between,

Or at each end I should say And also between warm colors like red,

Orange,

And yellow And then the cool ones of blue and purple So it becomes that neutrality,

That serenity,

That calm,

That hope of the balance point And then we go to the chakras The chakra system,

In the chakra system,

Green is that heart color We always think of it as red,

Valentine's Day and all,

But no,

In the chakras the heart is green And to create that color green we take a combination of yellow,

Wisdom,

Initiative,

Knowledge,

And gut instincts Remember we went there last time And then the color blue,

Which is words,

Intention,

Advice,

Inspiration of the throat chakra So it's that balance point Green is the great balancer of the heart and the emotions Creating equilibrium between that head and the heart Moving into the spiritual plane,

Green is a combination of blue and yellow It's a color of awakening and rejuvenation In myth,

It often plays up the complement of green to red So Osiris's body is green and it was brought back to life by Isis,

Who is red I don't know that story well enough to go any further into that But it makes me all the more intrigued to check out myths And then depending on how you feel about Christianity,

The version of the Holy Grail in Christianity It's an emerald green vessel that contains the blood of the Lord,

Red Green is the color of growth,

Of spring,

Of renewal and rebirth It restores depleted energy It is the sanctuary away from the stresses of modern life And restores us back to a sense of well-being I can just walk out in my yard in bare feet and feel the tickle of grass and see the breeze swaying my plants And I feel that sense so quickly,

That serenity and all is well I look at green in art I see it in landscapes,

Botanicals,

Plein air paintings and depictions of nature These are obvious,

But how about finding them in abstraction,

In portraiture,

In city scenes You can find there that artists are consciously or even unconsciously Perhaps attempting to pull together this balance and harmony that is green To say something of the healing and the positive energy And bring that serenity to these scenes that they're painting which wouldn't traditionally hold that green color A safe sanctuary in an abstract painting Sap green has been a long favorite of mine It was my go-to color in the very beginning when I was working in fluid watercolor and inks and acrylics Along with quinacridone gold and quinacridone magenta This color triune provided me with endless discovery of ways to portray my sense of optimism,

Hope and discovery through my creative work I didn't know that then of course,

But now I can look back I turn to greens now in brighter shades,

Harkening rebirth,

Spring I'll probably know in 10 or 20 years the real reasons why I also use mid-tone greens,

Perhaps hinting at fertility as I'm continuously creating in new ways And trying to find new means to create community,

To create a sense of discovery and unity in this place of art If I'm not simply just using them for beauty and integrity in my own art and life I feel like green is a colorful of integrity I don't know if there's any validity behind that outside my own sense of it,

But that's a personal notation This also does something of proving to me,

All these discoveries and explorations in my own art Proving to me that art is myself My art is such an expression of myself Something I've always felt and known,

But to look back and see the story of it throughout the decades And my use of these colors and their emotional and sensory associations It's feeding me so much more proof and wonderment of how I've used my colors And they are the story of my life as well My art is the story of my life at any stage of discovery So let's take this information to the canvas We're going to do another five minutes of green Well,

We're going to do another five minutes and in green What will you choose?

Is it going to be tones or hues?

A variety?

A primary?

How will you fill your blank space?

I pulled out my sap again.

I want to see what it feels like I'm going to blend it with a little bit of white and see what comes Enjoy the explanation,

Exploration,

Excuse me And when we finish,

I'll wave off until next Monday like I said and we'll hit on blue But as you know,

I give you a week's challenge while we are away from each other Take this information,

Find more on your own if you can Disseminate it and explore it as I have into the trajectory,

The history of your own exploration and art and see where it's landed in your creative practice See if it intrigues you in new ways as you look back at how you use colors Maybe beyond just the green,

The red,

Yellow,

Red,

Orange,

Yellow,

And green that we have hit on so far It's a fun exploration Now if you have time to play,

See what you discover Alright,

Are you ready everybody?

Shall we go green?

Five minutes,

Let's do it Okay,

Let's do it Okay,

Let's do it Okay,

Let's do it Okay,

Let's do it Okay,

As a community,

Painting together and seeing what green felt like for you as well as just hearing the cute little discoveries,

Interesting little tidbits I've discovered through my exploration about green and,

You know,

Brought here to you So,
