As the day comes to an end, our thoughts often turn to the people who mean the most to us. This bedtime prayer is a moment to ask for their protection, safety, and well-being, wherever they may be tonight. Bring to mind the people you love and place your worries about them aside for now. May they be safe through the night, surrounded by peace, and watched over until morning.

Before I sleep tonight. There is something I want to ask. Please protect the people I love. I realize how enormous that request is. I am asking for safe journeys, Good decisions. Kind strangers. Unfortunate timing and protection from a thousand things I cannot predict. Perhaps that is what love does to us. The moment another person becomes precious, The world suddenly contains something precious enough to lose. And so we worry. We remind them to drive carefully. We ask them to call when they arrive. We send messages that really mean something much larger than the words on the screen. Are you home? Did you get that? Everything okay? What we are really saying is. You matter to me. Please remain in this world with me. So tonight, God. Wherever the people I love may be. Stay close to them. Some are sleeping nearby. Some are hundreds or thousands of miles away. Be with all of them. Protect them on roads I cannot travel beside them. Protect them in rooms they cannot enter. And protect them from the quiet struggles they may be carrying without telling anyone. Put good people in their path. Let someone offer the right word at the right moment. I think of the people who once sat beside us and are no longer here. The ones whose voices we can still hear in memory. The ones we would give almost anything to call one more time. Their absence teaches us something we are very good at forgetting. Routine can make them seem permanent. But every person we love is a temporary miracle. So tomorrow. Help me remember this. Before life has to remind me. Let me look at the people I love with fresh eyes. Let me appreciate them before nostalgia has to do it for me. Let me say thank you while someone can still hear it. God, Whatever that word ultimately means. Whatever intelligence or love may exist beneath this astonishing universe. Please watch over them. Be near them tonight. And if they awake in the darkness. Let something inside them remember. Someone loves me. Someone is glad I exist. Someone hopes I wake tomorrow and have another chance to laugh. To begin again. And now. Help me sleep.
