"Is life THIS hard for everyone?"
"There's no way everybody has to push themselves and try as hard as this to do everyday things! I know lots of people who would never make it!"
"What do you mean 'its as easy as just doing it's?! If it were don't you think I would have cleaned out the instapot a week ago BEFORE it became an issue?!"
"Am I the only unmarried 37 year old formerly gifted child who wants but has no kids and STILL doesn't know what they want to be when they grow up?!"
Okay that last one might be a little "me" specific, but my generation and the generations before me have seen countless lives full of genius, talent and untold potential fall victim to addiction, depression, misdiagnosis, impulsivity, and mediocrity because nobody realized that we needed to be taught skills that came naturally to most, needed space and acceptance to try/do this a different way, that we weren't weak minded, manic or lazy, and needed a bit more intervention & accomodation to stay on track (among other traits) which, if we had, we might not only match but surpass our peers. We constantly were told "try harder" & "everyone else can do it that way, why can't you" & if female, you may have been labeled "bipolar" and even started on psychotropic medications (which for many, rarely worked) at the onset of puberty- beforemost show symptoms and far earlier than such a diagnosis can be reliably made.
Does this sound familiar? Or do you have a totally different experience deserving a voice and acknowledgement?
