Hello and welcome.
This is a short mindful eating practice to help you slow down,
Reconnect to your senses and really experience your food,
Not just rushing through it.
You don't need anything special,
Just something small to eat in front of you,
Even a piece of fruit,
A snack.
It could be your meal.
Whatever you have in front of you is fine.
When you're ready,
Let's begin.
So start by getting comfortable in your seat,
Perhaps placing your feet on the floor if you can and resting your hands gently in your lap or around your food.
Taking a slow steady breath in through your nose.
And exhaling softly through your mouth.
Allowing your shoulders to drop.
Softening your jaw.
And allow yourself to simply arrive here in this moment.
Before taking a bite.
Simply noticing what's in front of you.
Looking at the colors.
Noticing the textures,
Perhaps the light on the surface.
And take your time.
Without applying any judgment.
Simple curiosity.
Bringing your food a little closer.
Noticing the smell,
The aromas.
Does it smell fresh,
Sweet,
Savoury,
Warm?
Allow your senses to really wake up.
You might already feel your mouth responding,
Perhaps salivating.
That's completely natural.
When you're ready,
Perhaps taking your first little bite.
Don't brush the chew or the swallow.
Allow the flavours to merely land on your tongue.
Noticing the textures as it's soft,
Crunchy,
Juicy,
Smooth.
What changes as you slowly begin to tune?
See if you can stay with the experience moment by moment.
Without analyzing it,
Simply tasting.
And bringing your awareness to this moment.
And if your mind wanders,
Simply come back to the sensations that you're experiencing.
As you take your next bite,
See if you can bring a sense of appreciation.
Not in a forced or cheesy way.
It's simply an acknowledgment.
What it took for this food to be here.
The people who grew it,
Harvested it,
Prepared it.
And the way it now nourishes your body.
Feel the movement of your jaw,
The temperature of the food,
The subtle shifts in flavour as you chew.
And then when you're ready,
Finishing the mouthful that you run.
And taking one more slow breath in.
And a long gentle breath out.
And noticing how your body feels compared to when you started.
And how perhaps it's different to when you normally eat your food.
Maybe there's a little more calm,
A little more presence.
A little more connection to the simple act of eating.
And as you continue your meal.
You're welcome to go at your usual pace,
But perhaps bring a touch of this awareness with you.
Into your next few bites.
Thank you for taking these few minutes to slow down and eat mindfully with me.
