Nothing to solve tonight.
If you're here because your body is in bed,
But your mind appears to have other plans.
You're in the right place.
Maybe you're thinking about tomorrow.
Maybe you're replaying today.
Maybe your mind has picked one particular thing.
A conversation.
A decision.
A worry.
A person.
And decided that now would be an excellent time to leave.
To examine it from every possible angle.
Or perhaps there's nothing particularly wrong at all.
Your mind is simply So before we go any further.
.
.
I want you to know something.
We are not going to try to stop your thoughts.
You don't have to empty your mind.
You don't have to make yourself calm.
And you don't have to force yourself to sleep.
Because the moment sleep becomes something you have to accomplish.
Your bed.
Becomes another place to perform.
Another thing to get right.
And we don't need that tonight.
So instead,
Let's make a very simple agreement.
For the next few minutes.
There is nothing to solve.
Not because your problems aren't real.
Not because the things you're thinking about don't matter.
But because.
.
.
Right here.
In this bed.
At this hour.
You don't need an answer.
Let yourself notice whatever is supporting your body.
The mattress underneath you.
The pillow beneath your head.
The covers against your skin.
Notice where your body meets the bed.
The back of your head,
Perhaps.
Your shoulders,
Your back.
Your hips.
Your legs.
Your heels.
You don't need to make yourself heavier.
Just notice.
You already have weight.
Gravity is already doing something for you.
You don't have to participate.
And neither do you have to participate in every thought your mind offers you.
That's an interesting possibility,
Isn't it?
Because thoughts can feel like instructions.
Think about this.
Work this out.
Remember this,
Don't forget that.
What if this happens?
What did they mean by that?
What are you going to do about this?
And somewhere along the way.
We can start responding to every thought.
As though it's a knock at the door we have to answer.
But tonight?
You don't have to answer the door.
The thought can knock.
You can hear it.
And you can remain exactly where you are.
Maybe there's a particular thought knocking right now.
Don't push it away,
Just notice it.
There you are.
And instead of climbing inside it.
Instead of following it to the next thought.
And the next.
And the next.
See if you can simply notice.
My mind.
Is thinking.
That's all.
My mine.
Is thinking.
It's doing.
.
.
What mines?
Now notice your breath.
Not because we're going to control it.
You don't need to breathe in for four,
Hold for seven,
Breathe out for eight.
Or remember any numbers at all.
You're going to sleep.
You don't need any homework.
Just notice one breath arriving.
From the beginning.
All the way to the end of the inhale.
And from the beginning.
And all the way to the end of the exhale.
Try and find the precise moment where the inhale starts.
And ends.
And the exhale starts.
And ends.
Arriving.
And leaving.
Another breath arriving.
And leaving.
Your body has been breathing all day.
Without you thinking about it.
And tonight?
It can continue without your supervision.
Feel the inhale.
And feel the exhale.
Allow your attention to move towards your face.
Notice your forehead.
No,
It is your eyes.
Your mouth.
Your jaw.
If you notice any tension.
Just see if you can.
Smooth that brow,
Soften the eyes.
And maybe let your lower teeth fall away from your top teeth.
Your tongue to settle at the base of your throat.
See if there's any place in your face.
That you can relax.
5% Just 5%.
Now noticing your shoulders.
Noticing your arms.
Your hands.
Noticing your chest.
Any sensations.
Any movement.
Any tension?
Notice your hips.
Your legs.
And take your focus all the way down to your feet.
You are here.
Inner body.
In a bed.
And whatever your mind has travelled off to.
Hasn't actually taken you anywhere.
You're still here.
Maybe your mind is in tomorrow.
But your body is still here.
Maybe your mind is in yesterday.
But your body is here.
Maybe your mind is having an imaginary conversation with someone who isn't even in the room.
Your Bossy.
Is here.
And you can keep returning here.
Time.
And time.
And time.
Coming.
And when your mind wanders away.
Just.
I'm thinking again.
Head back.
Mattress.
Pillow nothing to solve.
Now.
Perhaps there really is something worrying you tonight.
Something that doesn't feel easy to put down.
So.
.
.
Rather than pretending it isn't there.
Let's acknowledge it.
Together.
You might quietly say to yourself,
Yes,
This is on my mind.
That's enough.
You don't have to explain it.
You don't have to analyse why you're thinking about it.
Just,
Yes,
This is on my mind.
And then add I don't need to solve it tonight.
And notice what happens inside you when you hear that.
Maybe a part of you immediately objects.
What if I forget?
What if something goes wrong?
What if I need to decide?
What if I don't work this out?
That's okay.
You don't need to argue with that part either.
You can simply respond.
Maybe.
And still.
Not tonight.
There's a difference between something being important.
And something needing your attention right now.
Those aren't the same thing.
You can care deeply about something.
And sleep.
You cannot know what you're going to do.
And sleep.
You can be waiting for an answer.
And sleep.
Someone can be unhappy with you.
And you can sleep.
Tomorrow can contain uncertainty.
And you can sleep.
To sleep doesn't require your life to be sorted out first.
So perhaps imagine just for tonight.
That there's somewhere you could leave all those unanswered questions.
Maybe a shelf.
A box?
A chair in the corner.
A room outside this one.
Whatever appears naturally for you.
And one by one.
You don't need to get rid of your thoughts.
You simply place them here.
I'll deal with that tomorrow.
And that one too.
Not now.
And if the same thought comes straight back.
You don't need to be annoyed.
You can put it down again.
And again.
And again.
As many times as you need.
A thought can be there and your body can still rest.
Questions,
Uncertainty.
Can all exist.
And your body can still rest.
Feel the bed underneath you again.
Feel the weight of your head.
Your shoulders.
Your hips.
Your likes.
And from here,
I'm going to give you more quiet.
You don't need my voice all the way into sleep.
You don't need to listen carefully anymore.
You can miss bits.
You can stop following altogether.
Nothing to remember.
Nothing to decide.
Nothing to rehearse.
Nothing to fix.
And if your mind starts another meeting.
You don't have to attend.
Not tonight Tonight,
Your body gets to rest.
Even if your mind takes a little longer to catch up.
There is time tomorrow.
For tomorrow.
And there is nothing.
Nothing.
You need to solve.
Tonight.
Rest.
