Find a comfortable seated position or you may choose to lie down for this meditation.
And today we're going to focus on activating the parasympathetic nervous system to soothe any anxiety or stress.
We'll do a simple guided visualization meditation followed by a beautiful soothing harmonic crystal bowl bath.
We'll end with a few minutes of silence and then you'll hear my voice guiding you back out.
So coming to that comfortable seat,
Giving yourself permission to relax,
To receive,
To be fully present for the next 15 minutes.
Begin to take deep breaths into the body,
Inhaling completely.
Exhaling fully.
As you breathe in and out,
Just start to feel the body relax.
Notice any tension from the jaw,
The neck,
The shoulders.
And with every exhale,
Just let that tension go.
Right now,
Let's take a deep breath in and out.
And with every exhale,
Just let that tension go.
Right now,
There's nothing to do.
There's nowhere to be but here.
Relax the space between your eyebrows.
And bring your awareness to the back of the skull,
The occiput,
Right where the skull meets the spine behind the neck.
And on either side,
Right behind the ears,
The vagus nerve,
The 10th cranial nerve,
Starts to go down on either side of the spine,
Innervating through the major organs of the body,
Just like an upside down tree,
So that vagus nerve is the trunk coming out from the brainstem.
And all of its branches are going down through the body,
Through the gut,
Through the organs.
And with each breath and each sound of the crystal bowls,
The vagus nerve is sending that message to the body to relax.
So as the sounds of the crystal bowls enter through the auditory cortex,
Feel them move through the ears,
Getting carried through the vagus nerve,
Down through the chest,
Down to the belly,
Sending that gentle message to the body,
Everything is okay.
With each breath,
The body is getting nourished.
The parasympathetic system is getting better.
The parasympathetic nervous system is doing its work to allow you to feel at ease,
Trusting for the next several minutes that this process is happening all on its own,
Just with our simple awareness.
And as you listen to the sounds of the beautiful crystal bowls,
Just know that the sound vibrations are carrying that message of deep relaxation,
Allowing yourself to slip away with the sounds.
If your mind gets busy,
That's okay.
That's what minds do.
If you notice,
Smile about it and allow your awareness to go back to the sound waves.
