I waited after this gorgeous practice.
I felt a tactile "thunk" as the energy from my spine reconnected deep into the Earth, grounding me and immediately flooding me with a sense of calm and peace that have been largely absent since early September. When I attend a family member's visitation tonight and funeral services tomorrow, the logistics I have been so focused on will be of far less importance than the fact of presence, of gratitude, of being able to gather (if in a more limited capacity), and in memory and honor of a life well-lived. Fretting over what to wear suddenly receded into the background, as did a host of other minutae.
Thank you so much for the gentle reminder to pause and reflect and simply to wait, giving ourselves the time we need and deserve to process where we are in our journeys and what we have just experienced. We can do amazing things, but without reflection, they do not truly become part of us in anything more than a superficial way. Rather than simply looking back and saying, "I remember doing that," processing our experiences through moments of inner space and quiet allows us to look back and say, "I remember doing and feeling and truly taking in that experience."
All the experiences - large and small - in the world mean little to the spirit if they are simply completed checkboxes on a "to-do" list of life. I may have fewer or more checkboxes than anyone else I meet, but I will be able to look at each one and know how each one changed me and helped shape me into who I am today. Thank you again for this reminder that even reading a book, or watching television, or listening to music can be just as important.
