Tree Grounding Meditation
by Violet
A grounding and centering meditation to connect with oneself and nature. Allowing space for self nurturing, and observing what further self care your body and soul are asking for.
Transcript
Sitting comfortably,
Close your eyes.
Allow yourself to put all those extra thoughts and to-do lists on an imaginary shelf,
Setting them aside.
Rest your hands on your lap,
Or your right hand on your heart and your left hand on your abdomen.
Let your body expand and release gently with each breath.
Inhale deeply,
Relax it out slowly and completely.
Inhale fully,
Pause,
Then slowly exhale.
Inhale,
Expanding your belly and chest,
Pause,
Slowly relax the air out,
Slightly squeezing in your abdomen to release that air out.
Inhale,
Slowly release that air out and slowly exhale.
Inhale,
Expanding your belly and chest,
Pause,
Slowly relax the air out,
Slightly squeezing in your abdomen to release that last bit of air before breathing in again.
Allow your breath to be slow,
Gentle and relaxed.
Now imagine yourself as a tree.
What kind of tree are you?
A bright green leafy tree?
An evergreen tree?
One with blossoms,
Fragrant?
What does your tree smell like?
What kind of scent does your tree smell?
What do your surroundings look like?
Are you in a forest?
Are you in a forest?
Are you in an open meadow?
Is there grass,
Dirt,
Or a forest?
What kind of tree are you?
What kind of scent do you have?
Is there grass,
Dirt,
Flowers,
Or other plants or leaves covering the ground?
Is there water nearby?
A lake?
A lake?
A lake?
A lake?
A lake?
A lake?
A lake?
Can you hear the trickle of a river or a creek?
Or is there a far reaching meadow or forest?
Are there any animals?
Are they near?
How do they feel?
How does this environment feel?
Just go with the flow of your surroundings,
Taking it all in,
Breathing in those smells of nature.
What do you enjoy about this environment?
What do you enjoy about this environment?
Is there anything that you'd like to shift?
Grow?
How is your tree?
Is it tall and healthy and vibrant?
Or does it need a little more nurturing and care?
Focusing on you as a tree,
Inhale up your tree,
Tall towards the sunlight,
Reaching out your branches.
Inhale up your tree,
Tall towards the sunlight,
Reaching out your branches.
Allowing in light from the universe and drawing it in,
Soaking it in.
Allowing in light from the universe and drawing it in,
Soaking it in.
Drawing it down through your branches,
Down through your body,
Your trunk.
And moving that light down deep into your roots.
Allowing those roots to expand and stretch deeply into the earth,
Stretching deeper and further.
What does the earth feel like?
Is it soft or hard?
Let your roots move as deeply as they will.
Let your roots move as deeply as they will.
Let your roots move as deeply as they will.
Let your roots move as deeply as they will.
And as deep as your roots will go,
Stretching them out a little bit more and then inhaling,
Drawing up the energy from mother earth,
Up through your roots,
Up through your legs,
Your body,
Your trunk,
Out your branches and leaves.
Letting that light stretch out beyond you,
Continuing to flow up and out to the sky,
Out to the universe.
And again,
Drawing in that universe light back down through your branches,
Down through your trunk,
Down through your roots.
Roots expanding a little bit deeper and further,
Stronger into mother earth.
Pausing there,
Just feeling that energy from mother earth,
Soaking that up.
And then drawing up the energy from mother earth again,
Up through your roots,
Your roots becoming more light,
Stronger.
Up through your tree again,
Out through the branches,
The branches reaching a little bit further,
Stretching out a little bit more,
Your tree becoming more vibrant.
Even though your tree is strong and the branches are strong,
It's still allowing that flow,
Your branches to bend and sway in the wind.
Your branches and your tree remaining strong and steady.
Stretching out your branches out again to the universe,
Reaching out to that light.
Breathing in that light,
The strength,
The vibrancy from the universe and drawing that back in and down,
Down through your tree,
Down through your roots once more,
Down into mother earth,
Thanking mother earth for her energy,
For supporting you.
And then drawing that back in and down,
Down through your roots,
Once more,
Down into mother earth,
Thanking mother earth for her energy,
For supporting you.
And again,
Drawing that energy up from the earth,
Up through your roots,
Into your tree and allow that light to fill and expand your heart space,
Allowing it to overflow out through your branches,
Out through your leaves,
Expanding out beyond you,
Completely filling you and surrounding you and supporting you.
Feeling that loving warmth of that energy and light.
Again,
Just letting your breath flow smoothly and deeply,
Allowing yourself to absorb that energy and any excess overflowing surrounding you,
Going out to your surroundings and your environment to wherever it's beneficial.
And thanking the light in the universe and mother earth.
Namaste.
Thank you.

I find so much peace in liking myself to a willow tree; deeply rooted and strong but so available to what the universe has to offer and teach me. A willow tree, to me, because of its multitude of whispy branches and greater surface area, allows more to be experienced. It is strong and wise.

This is a beautiful visualization meditation. At first I had trouble deciding which tree is me. As it went on I settled in and was able to have comforting , productive session. I feel calmer and in control of my anxiety.

Constantly bringing me back to the image of a tree helped me to stay in the moment - something I find difficult to do too often. Thank you.
